Med "split decision"...

To all,

I am really squeezed for space in my Med install. I have toyed with the idea of splitting it up into "early" and "late" installs, with the dividing line being the dawn of 1943.

This would move Mustangs, Apaches, Spitfire Mk. VIIs and IXs, P-40f Warhawks, late model Bf-109Gs, "J" model Libs, B-17s, Late-model Lightnings, some Fiat, Macchi, and Reggaine fighters, Hellcats, and the Junkers 188 into my late install exclusively.

This would free up some desperately needed space for the Botha, Sundenland, and other aircraft that I am forced to exclude at the moment.

Has anyone else found the need for this? I've done it for Europe, but this is another theatre where there is simply too much good stuff!

Not in the Med but I'm in the process of doing something akin to what you are thinking in the PTO. In short my early PTO install covers the area of the Stock MS airfields with a few additions in the SWPA like Australia and the DEI. My late war install will be the PI's, Formosa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Japan, etc. There will be some duplication of Western Pacific Airfields but it also allows me to do different versions of airfields like Wake.

Beyond having space for more active aircraft my GSL file, ships folder airbase.dat....etc is smaller and thus, easier to manage.

Divisory Notice ?

Not so much because of space, but for historical accuracy [at least MY version of such]..... I have SEVEN installs to date:

- Pearl Harbor
- PTO '41 to Early '43
- PTO Late '43 to '45
- BoB and North Sea Conflicts
- Normandy Invasion
- Coalition Bombing Raids to Berlin
- WWI

WIPs:
- North Africa
- Sicily
- Monte Casino and So Italy

If our "collective" of scenery and aircraft building specialists continues to create add-ons, I will no doubt need another Terrabyte just for game storage.

I do all my basic editing and "proofing" on the Dell laptop, and then move everything onto a DVD for storage.

Eventually, the completed game gets installed on my big comp. And, because I like to tinker with stuff more than fly missions, it would appear that I'll gather up all the knowlege gifted to me by forum members and begin GMaxing in earnest sometime later this year.

I'll bet I'm not the only person with divided interests... :wavey:

Taking it to logical extremes, it would probably be possible to have a CFS2 exclusive computer - with divided Pacific, European, Med, Finnish, Russian, etc etc campaigns.........
We've created a monster...........:woot:

If you know how to use the ACman you can the same through different war Era Hangars. For example you can place a folder inside of the ACman new Hangar and call it A1 ETO 1939-1942 and a diffrenent Folder inside at a different new Folder A1 ETO 1943-45 and so an. Then place the appropiate AC inside this new Hangars. If you are a observing person you will have noted that I wrote AI infront on the Folder with name of the Hangar. The reason is that this way the new name Aircraft Hangar Folder named will show up in top of the Aircraft folder name at the top list. This way you can idenfity the new Hangar every time you active the ACman Utility.

You can obtain the ACman Utility here http://fly.to/mwgfx

A WORD OF CAUTION

When you use the Acman and create a new Hangar you need to include the stock planes. What you can do is to make a New Folder and place a copy of the Stock planes in it. When you make the new Hangar just copy the stock planes from this Folder. Remember also that you are limit to 95 to 100 planes per Hangar. You do get up to18 Hangar with this program.

This way you can safe space in your Hardrive and accomplish the same result of having different Era in the same Install!

My secound recommendation is for you to install this utility from Sim-outhouse that will allow you to change planes and ships with in a Miision and Campaigns in secounds.

It also will give the ability to change whole planes Hangars and convert them into Ai Bandits in Quick mission.

This way you do not have activate plane after planes manualy. Its call mk_cfs2_uti2v.zip

Some do need to to save space and need to be more tidy with their approach. Beside it makes it more comperhensable than have 20 different installs. In the End its all a matter of taste. Good luck!:ernae:

ACMAN is unnecessary. Morton's mk_cfs2_uti2v it's all you need. It's easy to work and an elegant solution that create separate virtual theaters that manages the planes you want to use (see image attached). I asked Morton for a new version that could include ships. I kept my sceneries (including weapons), gauges, panels and sounds at a scenery folder and this save a lot of space and makes easier manage all the chaos generated for multiple installs.

Peperez this utility mk_cfs2_uti2v.zip only works to make it possible for AC in a Hangar available as AC opponent in the quick action option. It also works well for changing AC and Ships in a Mission or Campaign. But for creating new Hangars I believe not. Acman its the only utility that has works in this role in my experience.

I will give it a try to see if it works in this new role and see if you are right.

I"am always willing to learn from others. Its the only way to grow.

Thank you!

mk_cfs2_uti2v.zip utility

Hi
mk_cfs2_uti2v.zip utility has worked fine for me for some years, keeping my limits of aircraft below 90 by spliting my 190 airplanes installed. You only have to "load" the correct virtual theater you want to fly into before you start CFS2.

I have a single install covering WWII ETO with all the airbases and sceneries lately released. I have removed PTO airbases, airplanes, misions, campaigns, the opening, and many of the ships.

My only problem (a big one I haven´t solved yet) is that I´ve tried to make a single airbases.dat for ETO, Med and Eastern Front but they are not entirely compatibles. There are some airbases with the same data on each theater of operations, and although I could change them I would have trouble with many of the missions. And that is something I don´t dare to do!!

So I´ve begun to read about multiple installs and I´m thinking of switching to a multiple install covering that 3 basic theaters for dedicated airbases.dat, scenery and seasons textures. And continue using mk_cfs2_uti2v.zip utility for spliting my basic theaters into diferent eras: 1939-1942 and 1943-1945

If Morton or anyone could improve the utility to manage the ships it would be really great. In the mean time I´ll continue using shipman utility for that purpose.

Cheers, Discus
