While I realize that net bots are usually for unsavory purposes (by our reckoning), I am reminded of a line from a Douglas Adams book.

We have machines to wash our clothes and dishes (washing machines, dish washers). We even have machines to watch our TV for us (DVRs). Now we even have machines to browse the web for us (bots).
