Memorial Project

For those that may not have looked at my post about a "scenery question", last week I took on a project requested by a gentleman that lost his son-in-law when the CH-53 he was in went down in western Iraq, along with 30 other Marines back in 2005. This has become an experience I had not anticipated. I have had help from some well known people in the hobby, and last Friday I received a DVD from the person I am doing this for.

The DVD was a compilation of many things about his son-in-laws life. Most of it was from various Memorial services. To say that it hit home was putting it mildly. I had to have a box of tissues with me to watch it.

Here is what the memorial looks like right now. When it is done it will be placed at the location the chopper crashed, and be made available to anyone wanting it.

Its looking very good so far...

Can't imaging having to do that for a friend to place in FSX....

Harlyman,

I have never met this person...I simply responded to his post at another site.

Hi Robert,

I read the thread on the other site, all I can so is Bravo to you, Stand up thing you are doing !! Salute !! :engel016:

HooYaaa !! :applause::applause:

I've been following this. These kinda of things are so important to our society; if not only to honor the fallen but to serve as a reminder. Everyone forgets when peace prevails exactly what sacrifices have been made and why peace is so precious.

It received a copy of the DVD from Mitch last Friday, which I've now watched three times. I ran out of Kleenex and used up half a roll of TP...

Right there with you...
So hard to see how a community can be affected by war. When you watch it on the news mostly it is just news. When you see it on a personal level like that it is totally different. What a horrible thing to have happen to a loved one :frown:

Salute!

<-- watched that movie with Kevin Bacon, 'Taking Chance'. God bless their souls..

Awesome Robert that you are doing this. I think it looks great.

Not forgotten, just a bit sidetracked by other things. I am working on getting all my developing tools onto my new computer right now, and I could try to get something out by Monday. I had to give priority to other projects, and I haven't been doing a whole lot of work recently due to my old computer going wonky on me. :isadizzy:

It was working, but not very well. Now I have something real to work with :d

Oh my! I've just gone through a similar experience. After nearly five years of faithful service, my "old" development machine started exhibiting an annoying tendency to lock up completely...

...at the most inopportune times, such as in the middle of compiling an aircraft or a C gauge project, et cetera...

I ordered a budget replacement from Tiger Direct and have just finished getting all of my development software installed and configured. Naturally, my "old" machine was moved into the Library where it is now serving as a standby backup until this new machine has "proven itself" to be reliable and trustworthy.

I was a bit hesitant because the new machine came with Vista Home Basic, but frankly for my purposes it has proven to be a blessing. Because it isn't loaded down with all the "bloatware" of its bigger brothers, what I have effectively is a fairly lean and mean system now! Moreso since I took the time to reconfigure a lot of the OS settings, and removed even more "stuff" from it that will never be needed for this machine's tasks... :ernae:

Eventually I will reformat the "old machine" and install fresh WinXP SP3 on it, and relegate it to being my MIDI Studio machine, as well a file backup server for the other machines on the LAN.

Now I have to catch up on all the work that's been delayed over the past two weeks! :isadizzy:
