Memory increase tweak for FSX?

I have a recollection that there is a tweak that you can do which allows FSX to optimist RAM above 2Gb.Does anyone else remember this or am I mistaken?

I think you're thinking of the 3GB switch Ian, I followed a post on the Avsim forums by Bill Leaming. If you search Google you may find a link on another forum.

However, it isn't a cure-all. Because I have a 1Gb graphics card, it actually killed my PC. There simply wasn't enough memory available after shadowing the graphics card for the sim to run, when using that switch. Remove the "tweak", all is well.

Upping to a 64-bit OS and putting more RAM in is the only option for people who want to use cards with large amounts of video RAM properly.

It worked for me to cure the OOMS

One thing to note though is that for me it causes problems with other games such as GTA4 and Fallout 3, I get bad lockups and crashes in those with the 3GB switch enabled.

I got round that problem though by editing the boot.ini so I can choose to boot with or without the switch.

Thanks for replying guys. Yes I have the OOM fix applied and it works great, it’s just I thought that there was another memory tweak. I must have dreamed it!
