Mesh and landclass question

Recently while cruising I came across some mesh and landclass files for the pacific by a fellow named Rolf Keibel (VF2_Rolf). I am not looking to start a flame war ,or name calling, here but has anyone used them and, if so, what was the degree of satisfaction? Will they interfere with files such as Maskriders airfields? I realize that there is the potential for a airfield to run up a mountain, but that is what I would like to ascertain.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? All my terrain looks like Kansas!:banghead:
 
I use Rolf's mesh and have had no issues with it.MR scenery is compatible with it also I believe.

This are my recomendation for upgrading the Pacific scenries in CFS2!

This are my tips on how to improve your Pacific sceneries.


This is what I recommend to improve your Pacific Theater scenery.

First you should get Stiz wonderful World Texures.

Now I"m enjoying this Sim more than ever and I hope you are as well. Now you can fly all over the World in what ever Theater you want with visual style.

I enjoy flying as much over the European Theater as the Pacific Theater. I hope you do to. They both give me a special kind of joy.

Now you do not have any excuses. You can not tell your family you will not take them to Europe and visit London or Paris. You can"t say you can not effort to fly to the Far East. Its available with a Joystick and a good plane. You have over one thousand plane to chose from. All you have to do is wait until the war is over. Other wise you might be shot down. LoL

Just enjoy it as much as possible.

My tips on how improve European sceneries.

Europe

I installed McClelland UK sceneries.

Last but not least I recommend you down load McClelland European Scenery for CFS2. Its a must if you really want to improve this program sceneries up to grade. With his sceneries you will not only have Cities and forest but also roads.

You must install this European Texure upgrade. Its the best one in my humble opinion.

I hate CFS2 clouds. Thanks to our members there are some new clouds available as well.You can get the one from Sim-outhouse call Stiz Clouds or LW clouds. Its you choice. I have install them both in different install that I have. You also download a new Sun.

I forgot Stiz European Water. This is also a must.

A warning about this mesh. It has some serious problems... just look at it in TMFViewer, and you'll see the huge amount of gaps in the data. Worse than poor quality.

It's a good idea to check all mesh and landclass with TMFViewer first, before installing mesh or landclass.

No flames at all Fibber. Rolf has contributed significantly to the excellence of CFS 2.

I use a combination of Rolf's mesh, Rhumbaflappy's landclass and PACTEX textures for what I think is a very good looking South Pacific and Asian continent.

Of course mesh is the frame, landclass is what the vegetation should or should not be and textures are the vegetation and populated areas. The way most men think, that would equate to the breasts, the bra and the blouse.

Fs2004 SDK/ Terrain SDK... look in the terrain tools folder.

All addon mesh and landclass should probably be checked with TMFViewer first. If simviation had used this, they would have seen what a poor excuse for mesh this was. They really should take it off ther website. It will mess up your scenery.

Very good advice, Dick. There are much better options for New Guinea than the Global Mesh. On the other hand, there are specific parts of the world where nothing better compatible with CFS2 can be found :crybaby:. For example, one year ago I looked for mesh for Somalia, Ethiopia, etc. and I did not find any other thing that could be displayed on CFS2. There were others for FS9 but of the non-compatible type (it is, they made the simulator to crash or to display garbage instead of terrain when flying).

Not to defend Global Terrain mesh, but if it's messed up my scenery...I haven't noticed. I also use some Japanese stuff...for Japan and some of Rolf's stuff for this and that.
 
Srtm v3?

Does anyone know anything about this - it claims to have the voids and spikes cleared up.

Hi Gavin.

I'm editing this as I mistook your question for the simviation mesh.

Sometimes SRTM 90 meter data is refered to as SRTM3 This 90 meter data has gone through some revisions which have tried to clean up the data.

What is called "SRTM v4" is available at the CGIAR website. This is about as good as it will get for 90 meter data. There may be a need to hand-edit some files, but should be generally good up to LOD8 or LOD9. I think the files are geotiff format, and are a "mosaic" of smaller areas.

Detailed mesh areas in CFS2 are already sampled for LOD9, so either you'd need to delete the default LOD9 mesh for those areas, or resample at LOD10 ( not really recommended )

Funny! its not that I do not believe you guys but I have not had any problem with it so far. I mostly use it in remote areas of the World map where no Mesh available will cover it.:mixedsmi:
