Messerschmitt 108 Taifun released!

I recently read that Robertson loaned this plane to "the studio" for use in one of the films he starred in; unfortunately, it didn't say which movie that was.
 
Cliff's BF-19 appeared in several films, at least twelve movies. A few that I remember was 633 Squardron, The Dirty Dozen and the Great Escape. In the Great Escape, James Garner flew Donald Pleasance in the Bf-108 until it ran out of gas. Maybe we can put up a list of the films this great airplane was in.
By the way, has anybody got a used video card cheap? Mine died.
I'm now running on my motherboard at 3.2 FPM.
 
Ouch! 3.2 FPM ain't exactly lightning-fast!

Add "The Longest Day" to the list of Bf108 flicks.
Pips Priller attacking the invasion beaches, in real life flown with Fw190.

Isn't it ironic?
Basically the sole LW aircraft that never fired a shot in anger has a postwar carreer as a wannabe fighter.
Even the Bücker 181 was equipped with weapons at some point during the war, not so the Bf108.
 
Hey Mathias,

Would it be possible in some far off patch to have a 'cold and dark' start option, maybe part of the 'just fly' utility? I have set the BF-108 as my default start aircraft and saved it with everything off, but when I go to start the flight the fuel lever is always 'on'. A very minor issue. With CRM scenery out, I have been having a great time touring it in the Taifun.

TJ, funny you should ask this just now.
Technically speaking, the fuel cutoff lever uses a local variable which's state normally can not be saved within FSX automatically.
I just got a simconnect programmer aboard who can do exactly that so with the pax service pack you will see a couple other new features comming.:wavey:
 
Sounds great Mathias. Yeah no biggie with the fuel lever...I think we can all handle one extra mouse click during the preflight to shut it off LOL. Interestingly in most GA planes I have flown, the master fuel selectors were always left 'on' with the mixture control being the primary fuel cutoff source.

I landed it at Mile Hi, Idaho in the CRM scenery, it is kind of like a bush strip version of Courchevel. The Taifun landed wonderful, tho it slows down so fast with those big flaps that I didn't have enough power to taxi up the hill LOL. The power drop off at high elevations makes for an interesting challange in the Taifun. It seems that grass strips in FSX have more 'drag' resistance on the wheels than in real life.

Thing is the Taifun does not have a mixture lever. :)
Actually you would just shut down the ignition magnetoes to turn the engine off.
Need to adjust that in the checklist.:engel016:

Yeah I have been using the red fuel lever to shut the engine off, then mags off. I think that is from habit from airplanes with mixtures.

lol yeah, if you got CRM from Orbx, you can try that strip in the video or an even harder one is I99D. You take off a short down hill strip near a river, then have to make hard turns to follow the river as you try to climb out...crazy :D The Taifun is the only airplane other than my J-3 and Waco ASO that can get out of that airstrip lol.
 
Actually, your post and the vid got me into buying all the ORBX USA scenery but the most northern stuff.

First attempt at landing at Mile hi ended in a total crash, second just cost a gear leg.
Thank god virtual Taifuns are cheap these days :kilroy:

it's really only two planes that used the swastika, D-IGNY and D-IOIO.
Will talk to Alessandro if he can make something available, though it will surely take a bit since he's currently building a house.:salute:
