Mick's ridin' the clutch again!

Sorry, typo in the last post, too late to edit.

I actually arrived at SERB as declared at departure and verified by Duenna.

Arrived at SETM - one of those places that comes into view over a ridge and you have to drop down between the mountains - wouldn't fancy that in IMC!

Fuel used 842

Mick;
Wait till you jet to "Some Peanut Butter & Jelly" (SPBJ).. I flew a heading straight for the air strip.. I'm straining my eyes, looking for an airport... Just as I crossed over a "ridge", I noticed that the airport was four thousand feet straight down!! Made for a helluva fast approach speed ;-}

Thought that was going to be really easy to find with the runway direct on track and another VOR on an almost square heading. But I just couldn't see it - then a ridge - a runway down in a bowl! dropped over the edge, came in a bit fast and pulled up just on the end!

I'll have to do some performance checks to see if I can get outta here with a decent payload!

Aborting take off.

OK what happened was the aircraft didn't accelerate properly so I closed the throttles and came to a controlled stop on the runway. Subsequent testing suggests the runway may have a slope so will go again from the opposite end.

As there was no damage (I found an engineer in the bar and bribed him with a few beers to check it out for me) presumably there's no maintenance points conceded?

Miss Nellie says no crash and no damage expenses means no maintenance points. (Good thing you kept the bribe "off the books.")

Good luck with the small strip, Mick.

That was tough! Nice flight in VMC but couldn't find the field, thought I was in the right place but ground too high. Oh My God! it must down be down in that hollow. One chance to get this right just like Lukla!

That Miss Nellie is a very nice lady!

Needed all the runway (and a little more!) at SPJB to get airborne, gear up and pull it up over the ridge. After that nice flight, great visibility in this fantastic Andean region and straightforward navigation initially towards Chimbote to meet the 096 radial from Trujillo which set things up nicely to run right down the valley towards the NDB on the field.
