Micro Plane; Hummelbird

Hey all,

I had seen one of these today at an airshow and was impressed. Super small and probably very fast with a basic VW engine.

Almost looks affordable!

Its called the Hummelbird and was designed in 2000 by a certain engineer named Hummel. Basic VW engine power....

Put a scoop under the belly of that yellow one and it would look like a Mustang that shrank... (shouldnt have washed it in hot water)!

I've seen a couple. I like it, but I have concerns about how short that fuselage is, nose to tail on those 'stock' versions.
I just remember Chuck Yeager mentioning a few things in one of his books.
How he could tell how a plane would handle.
One of those was how short a fuselage was.
I notice that one in your other post, Bill, looks like it was modified and the tail has been lengthened quite a bit.

Sweet A/C.....but it's huge in relation to the twin engined Cri Cri (Cricket) ...

I've seen a couple of them IRL and they're not much bigger than a large scale rc plane! There's even a turbine powered version.

LOL! That's exactly what I always think when I see one.
It's like a CriCri with a dose of steroids.
That's not a bad thing, I have a certain fondness for the "Cricket".

At first, at the airshow yesterday, I thought this too was a Cricket from a distance. Similar canopy shape.

I have seen footage on YouTube on the Cricket. They fly pretty nicely. They probably have a huge sensitivity to pitch input from that short fuselage (if thats what its called on such a small bird). Fast little things.... Almost like a jet pack, except you sit 'in' it and sit 'down' and have a canopy over you, lol... and no VTOL..
