I would like to hear the pilots excuse for running into a balloon. WWI is now over. That is not an observation balloon...

I noticed a lot of Hot air balloons over to the west of Deer Valley while I was in Scottsdale. They even appear in FSX in the same location, I can't remember the name of the airfield. I saw one this morning as I was leaving town much further east to the north of Scottsdale Airport.

Maybe it suddenly darted out in front of him, like those pesky weather balloons...

Those hot air balloons are a regular feature out here during the "cooler" months. Take you up for a champagne breakfast flight (no the pilot does not indulge) for around a hundred bucks a person. The concierge at most of the local hotels can probably give you the lowdown.

It's VERY easy to misjudge the distance to an almost non-moving object in midair without any reference around. If it's a balloon or a hovering helo, they tend to grow rapidly within the last few seconds and it's easy to misjudge the distance when doing a close 'fly-by'

Looks like he dead centered the balloon.
