Mid Atlantic AM Pics

Another MAAM WWII Weekend show missed by me. My schedule always overlaps that weekend- I think I've been once in the last ten years. Anyhow, I hope it was a good show!

I was there for Saturday only this year working at the French Village Gate. Rough idea is that there were close to 25,000 paying customers this year for Saturday alone. The best year ever as Friday was beyond their expectations too. No word on Sunday's turnout as of yet.

As for the P-61. I was talking with Russ Strine, head of MAAM, about the 61. They need to have one engine completely rebuilt... it's in bad shape. The engine that was supposed to be hung on the 61 for the show was intentionally left on the engine stand, and on display as that engine too needs work. All the seals need to be check and replaced as needed. It would have been a waste of time to mount it only to have to remove it to be sent out for the work needed. So, maybe by next year both engines will be on her, plus there's still wiring that needs to be installed. As Russ said.... it's getting closer and closer to that first flight. And he was all smiles when he was telling this, so it lookin better and better every day.

BTW... this was my 10th year working at the admission gates, and my last. Next year I'll be working a new job up by the Pavilion where I can see what's happening. :d

I came in at the village gate! Thats an awesome place for an airshow though I was expecting a much larger crowd it wasnt bad at all. Actually was surprised at the small crowd considering all that goes on there. Added four or five planes I never saw before including of course the Widow and the B29. The weather was good even with the clouds at least it wasnt 90+ degrees. Left too early though so didnt get any good shots of the Helldiver,Dauntless and fake Val flying though I did watch for a while.
