A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Missions Add-Ons

Description: These are two missions from the Battle of Midway. I plan to release several more covering various phases of battle. Since today is June 4, the 74th anniversary of battle figured I would release these two completed missions. More to come in near future.

Mission one covers VMF-221's interception of the Japanese carrier planes on the morning of June 4, 1942. Player flies a F2A Buffalo. Plane count is historically accurate, so quite a few birds in the air on this one.

Missions two covers the strike by VMSB-241 flying the SB2U-3 Vindicator. Eleven of these obsolete birds left Midway, attacked the imperial fleet, and only seven returned.

Make sure to check over the README carefully.

I need help with one of the planes.

I can't find the Alpha pby plane for the mission, downloading all of the planes from warbirds libray, many months ago, but i dind't find the PBY alpha?

Check the model.cfg. It needs to reference the model name correctly
Check the the aircraft.cfg to make sure it's not referencing the FS2004 model name.

I included the model and model cfg file to replace the default one in alpha so plane could be used as AI bird. No issues on my end, files were named appropriately.

So Elsner, did you do this, as Dasuto had thoughtfully provided the correct files already? :ichile:

Yes, i do this.

I replace in Alpha PBY 5 A the air file with the air file from the Mission and the model cfg and ALPHA_BlackCat_Amphibian mdl with the file in the missions ordner. But the Game can't find the Model folder?

Elsner, just checking, you copied and pasted
model.cfg
ALPHA_Blackcat_Amphibian.mdl
into the ALPHA PBY-5A Catalina MODEL folder? (this has model.cfg + ALPHA_PBY5A_USAF.mdl in it). :teapot:

I ask because the ALPHA Blackcat model is in model.4 folder, but CFS2 won't look for the model.4 folder unless you change the first entry in the aircraft.cfg file to read model=4

I think it would be useful if Dasuto could include the aircraft.cfg for the ALPHA PBY-5A Catalina - the Alpha FS2004 has many different versions & lot's of data that CFS2 doesn't need in order to load - it can be confusing for some to know what to change:dizzy:.

Hi Elsner,

Watched the vid, it looks like you did everything correctly.

I opened Dasutos mission files with Notepad & noticed the object is called "PBY5A_CATALINA".

Change the Alpha PBY-5A Catalina aircraft.cfg to read "Title=PBY5A_CATALINA" :frog:

I had chancged the Name, but the game dont find the plane in the libray

Hi Elsner, I'm back home, so I've fired up CFS 2 & loaded Dasuto's mission. I gave you the wrong steer earlier today. The title in the aircraft.cfg can remain the same, it's the name of the aircraft folder that needs to change.

Instead of "ALPHA PBY-5A Catalina", the folder needs to be called "PBY5A_CATALINA"

Then the plane will load. This is a large mission - my PC has 8gig of RAM & the first time it failed to load "PBY5A_CATALINA". This model is not multi-LOD, so takes a lot of processor power to load multiple aircraft to a mission. In my case I pressed load mission again, & this time it loaded successfully.

As the PBYs are just ground objects in this mission, they need to be simpler models. Shessis PBY5 is multi-LOD, hopefully his reworking of the PBY5A isn't too far away. Otherwise I think the mission would benefit from changing these ground objects to simpler PBY models, so that people running less powerful hardware can enjoy Dasutos hard work.
