Midway

I've changed the Kate to the one made by Thicko and all the F4F-4's and SBD3's to FDG,the Zero and Val will be by Akemi.I found there are less mid air collisions.

The add on Missions I'm doing will be named for the Carrier they are flown from. They will be missions not cover in the original AF=Midway.

After Hiryu was attacked Hornet sent an attack force of Dauntless's from her own squadron and from Yorktown planes that landed on her late in the day.Wildcats were also sent and they staffed the IJN Destroyers. They landed in the evening.1 BB,1 CA, and 1 CL were hit.

I have only 2 or more missions to go,that would make a total of at least 20 missions.

The ones I'm working on.
1-Enterprise intercept of a 4 engine seaplane.

2-Yorktown search for Hiryu.

3-Search for other IJN Fleet ships.

TheBookie

The AF=Midway missions are done, thanks to Stuart I was able to put in all new Destroyers ( Porter Class out today ).

My missions are still being worked on.I have found new info on the battle in the last week that shows the IJN Fleet formations and heading during the USN attacks. The Japanese were actually on a heading away from the USN Fleet when the Dauntless attack occurred, this was because of all the other attacks before. Also the USN Fleet had to launch aircraft heading away from from the IJN Fleet so they could head into the wind.

One other thing, the AF=Midway missions used Hawaiian time and not the actual time at Midway, this mentioned in 1 of the missions,so there is a 2 hour difference. The missions were actually 2 hours earlier than portrayed.

Been working on the Yorktown search mission to find Hiryu for about 2 weeks now.The search planes took off about 40 minutes before the Vals attacked Yorktown, but I set it up so that while you're between way points the attack begins. As you are flying you get the action reports of the attack, what planes get shot down and so on.The Kates also attacked during the search but I haven't put that part in yet.I also have the search plane fly by the Yorktown TF before it lands on Enterprise.I just think it adds a little extra to the mission.

TheBookie

I finished the search mission for Hiryu and you get reports of both the Val and Kate attacks on Yorktown.I have 4 other missions I wrote.

1-Enterprise fighters shoot down a 4 engine float plane.

2-Enterprise fighters shoot down a recon plane 50 miles from the fleet.

3-Hornet fighters help defend Yorktown during the Val attack.

4-Hornet attacks BB's,CA's,1 CL and DD's.This I found reading the Hornet action report. From the Description of the report these were the ships escorting Hiryu when she was attacked.

I want to do maybe 4 more missions to finish, but I decided to take a little break. It's been a lot of work and need some time off.

The USN and IJN Fleets are a mix of Stuart,Usio and VN ships.

Gonna be a Nightmare to do the readme.

I can understand your need to take a break. You've done a lot lately. This either has to be fun, or you should get paid for it, :) As soon as I can get my settings here to allow me to post screenshots, emoticons etc, I will post Operation Dragoon in a new thread. I am 6 missions and the second day (D+2) into it and taking a break myself while searching for more info.

For the AF=Midway their were 15 missions which I redid all the ships and planes plus the 5 I have also done.

The Fast Carrier Raids are 17 missions which I also changed ships and planes.Since Stuart released new ships I have to replace some ships with the new ones.It takes a lot of time.

TheBookie

I now have 22 missions done with about 3 or 4 to go.The reason it is taking so long is because they are over 30 minutes of flight time.So just for me to test them to make sure they work the way they should I have to fly them several times which can take several hours to do,not to mention the time it takes to fix things that don't work as they should.

I am using action reports from Enterprise,Yorktown and Hornet for these missions and I found other info on the heading of both the IJN Fleet and the USN Fleet and formation of them.

TheBookie

To get some of these missions to work right I did,I had to do spawns a little different.I would spawn a friendly AI flight from my plane and than spawn the enemy fighters from my AI flight, worked great.

I needed one of my ships attacked while we were attacking the IJN Carriers. What I did was spawn the enemy and friendly planes from the ship way point I wanted it to get attacked at.Also worked well.

I'm just mentioning this because novice mission builders may not know you can do this. Most may think you can only spawn off the player flight. Also I don't think anyone else has mentioned doing this, but I may be wrong.

TheBookie

Useful snippet TheBookie.:applause:

Because you can't spawn infrastructure objects, I find I'm configuring more & more objects as vehicles. Whilst it makes ground attack missions more cluttered in some ways, the ability to have these objects spawn, or their appearance then used as a trigger for other mission events is so incredibly useful.

... and for overwater/anti-shipping missions, you'll probably never use the Tactical display to show "Ground Units" anyway :costumed-smiley-034, so it won't matter ...

I have 23 missions done,15 are the original AF=Midway with all new up to date ships and planes.

My missions.
1-Enterprise Dauntless attack on Akagi.

2-Yorktown Dauntless attack on Soryu.

In both missions the IJN Fleet was heading North West as they should be,also before you attack VT-5 attacks Hiryu with torpedoes and you get action reports.

3-Yorktown search for Hiryu.During this mission you get action reports of the Val attack and later the Kate attack on Yorktown.

4-Hornet sends fighters to defend Yorktown during the Val attack.

5-Enterprise fighters shoots down a IJN search plane.

6-Enterprise fighters shoot down a Mavis.

7-Hornet attacks the escort ships of Hiryu after she is put out of action.

I also redid the original "Best of the Best" having IJN ships going to the North West as they should be.

Some of these missions take over 30 minutes to fly.

I want to do at least 2 more missions but not sure which ones I want to do.

My choices are another intercept by Hornet fighters of the Kates attacking Yorktown,Enterprise Dauntless attack on Kaga, attack on a BB during the attacks on Akagi,Kaga and Soryu.(The BB was attacked after Akagi and Kaga were in flames)and the dauntless attack on Hiryu.

All these missions are from the action reports from the 3 USN carriers.

I was hoping some members would like to have a say in the last 2 missions, but I forgot the new CFS2 forum likes to be silent except for some of the old timers. That's fine.I'll just do what I feel is best.

I know how you feel, sometimes. :banghead:

A friendly reminder that some members here are not retired yet and have children to take care of after working hours through the week. You might have more luck with your need of replies during week-ends.

That being said, thank you for giving these classic campaigns such an attractive update. Just choose the missions you feel like doing. Really looking forward to the final result .:encouragement:
