Mikko's Maule FSX native

Tri-gear VC Fix

On the FSX model, changing the tri-gear model.cfg file to read as below was the VC fix.

[models]

normal=Maule_Trigear_P3DV4_exterior
interior=Maule_Trigear_P3DV4_interior

This worked on the FSX model on both a Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 system. Neither of these run DX10 and both run FSX Acceleration.

The triangle issue seems to be the light poly not having a material applied and there is no way I can add a material in Model Convertor X

The odd shadow on top of the fuselage is not something I can correct as it is a model issue and not texture related. No sources exist, hence why I mentioned that this model was converted over using MCX. The shadow issue only appears in FSX and not P3DV4 :/

The Triangle issue might be on your end as I have seen it with a few of your latest models. I don't get them. Also seems to be the same material as the top antennas in MCX and in Hierarchy mode it's tied to a ton of other parts so you can't delete it. I'm downloading the original model now and I'll open it up in MCX (Do you have the latest version?) and see what I get.

Edit. Got Mikko's original file downloaded. First pic is MCX first import of the original model. second is George's FSX model. and the third are my MCX importer settings. Not sure what the issue but I had those same triangles on the MD500 George released a while ago as well.

Triangle effect

1) The model name has nothing to do with the visual issue in FSX, it is only important that the ---exterior.mdl & ----interior.mdl
name are identical with the model.cfg file texte.
(expl.
[models]
normal=Maule_Tri-cycle_exterior
interior=Maule_Tri-cycle_interior

2) In FSX-SE/(DX10fixer) all models works perfectly except the landing lights triangles visulal issue.
I don't have the odd shadow on th top of the fuselage for all models, see screenshot (may be a DX9 issue).

3) Like eurostar350 said, the triangle effect seems to be a polygone conversion issue and not a texture neither effect-texture issue.

It would be a pity to put this nice aircraft in the basket because of this annoying triangle issue.

I am also making some progress! I labeled the texture folder to texture_old and brought in a texture folder from an earlier Maule! I now have a VC and the grey areas on the wing are gone, also the textures for the aircraft are dark, so I'll have to experiment further. The lights are still on the fritz!

Did you read what Ray and I both wrote about how to fix the lack of a VC?

Did you read what Ray and I both wrote about how to fix the lack of a VC?

Tried that right away when Ray wrote it at AVSIM. It gave me no VC no matter which way I stuck my tongue in my cheek! I now have a VC and the bright exterior textures are back (along with the dark grey bands on top of the wing) by adding fresnel_ramp.dds and fresnel_Ramp_glass.dds.

Don't know if the VC secret is because I don't have Acceleration?

I suppose that's possible, but not really much of a secret, it only required that one additional line (for the interior model to be read) in the model config file. No reason that shouldn't have worked. At any rate you have what you need.

I found several fixes for the triangle issue:
1. Don't view the airplane from the rear (the triangles aren't visible until you move slightly aft of the wing) :playful:
2. Don't turn the landing lights on, especially if you're flying at night. You can pretend you're part of a "Black Ops" Team landing at a secret runway:biggrin-new:

Yep, has me baffled also! :banghead: That's why I asked MZee (who also uses FSX with SP2) to report back with what he sees.

Same issues here as already reported in this thread ............

This one's, unfortunately, not a keeper for me. :confusion:

float plane

The floatplane doesn't work for P3D V4.5 - Oddly, LM provided other version of the Maule. When I tried to add the float plane it won't show in preview.

Removing the grey triangle

If the grey triangle on the landing lights is an issue for you it is fairly easy to remove.

You need to import the model into MCX and then using the hierarchy viewer you will see that the triangle is a single part.
If you delete this part then the triangle goes away.

Removing the part doesn't seem to affect the function of the landing lights (these shots are from P3D but it should be the same in FSX.

Worked fine for me - are you sure you are using the P3D version?
Also don't forget that the panel and sounds are aliased to other folders. Make sure they are there.

Did you see a VC by adding the extra line into the model.cfg?

Hi Charlie,

No VC after initial install, but I didn't try any config modifications.
For now, I just opted to park it in the 'wait and see' bin and move on to other projects.
