Mil Mi-24V for FSX Released

Nemeth vs. Virtavia Mi-24...

...are they identical? I'm getting the impression it is a joint development.

If they are not identical, which is better? (I tend to like the max number of loadout options...)

No, they are not identical nor are they a joint development. Just two different approaches to create the same helo.

Hard to say which is better. Both have their fine and not-so-fine points (IMO).

I like the Virtavia machine 'cause it's easier to start, has tool tips for gauges, and there are lots of repaints coming out. I like the Nemeth machine as its seems a little more realistic, more detail on the models and better sounds, and has some additional features and effects. Both has about the same number of animations.

Basically, I'm still going back and forth flying both to answer the same question you raised as to which is better. As for loadouts, there are 3 Virtavia models and only 2 Nemeth models if that answers your question.

Hmmm....sounds like an excuse to buy both! Here's a question-- it appears that the Virtavia version has an "empty" (nothing on the pylons) loadout. Does the Nemeth have that as one of it's two loadouts as well?

Kent

Aaarrgg... I had to pull my Virtavia version out of the hangar to answer your questions.

No, the Virtavia version does not have a 'clean' model. All three models have different weapon loadouts. I also forgot to mention that the Virtavia version has a working HUD, VC Map (gps), and you can hide the crew. The Nemeth has none, other than a targeting reticle.

The Nemeth versions are clean and with loadout. No variations on loadouts.

Well, this SUCKS

Bought the Nemeth Designs Mi-24, downloaded it (multiple times), and I keep getting install errors ("Install disk 1 of 5", "Unable to create destination folder", etc.). I forgot how fun their stuff can be to deal with-- I don't have the patience for it right now.

Off to Virtavia...

K

Doesn't sound like fun

Where did you purchase it?

I purchased mine from Nemeth and had no problems with the install. They sent me an e-mail with links to all the files which I downloaded into a folder. I extracted the install program from the zip file, and ran the installer without a hitch.

You'll enjoy the Virtavia version. After you fly the blades off, you'll be hungry to try the Nemeth one. Be advised that some of us had some "artifact" issues with the vc, and they have a patch available through their forum. Also, because they don't have any tool tips for the vc, it may have a steep learning curve on cold starts - but they do have a patch on their web site for converting the panel to English which makes things a little easier to figure out what the switches do.

I bought it from Nemeth...and I downloaded the zip file only (didn't download the .z files-- It looked to me like that was an alternate way to install if you didn't have WinZip-- did I mess up on that?).

When I try to install it, and it fails to start time after time.

I'll have to get with Aussiecop on it.

It's been awhile since I installed mine. If I recall, I did the same as you and got nowhere. Only until I downloaded all the files into a temp folder, extracted and ran the installer did I get it installed. The readme file is somewhat vague.

Well...

....just got this thing installed (there was a thread about the same issue on the Nemeth forum, and I fixed it basically like you said-- extract the 7z folders).

All I can say is OMG-- this thing is VASTLY superior to the Virtavia model. Also, I did the Russian --> English panel conversion...very nice. Now off to find repaints~!

I think I will go off and try to find some Afghanistan scenery...

I typically have ZERO use for Russian birds, but this is just AWESOME.

Incredible-- thanks for your encouragement and help, WarHorse!!!
