Oh, I will do more than that, if this goes far enough. I will make the drive to D.C for a personal visit with MY congressman. This ain't gonna git it.

I don't have much faith in the two senaters from Washington State, but I'll write to them anyway if this gets beyond the proposal stage.

Odd--seems when I went in the Army I was guaranteed free health care for life from the VA as long as i was discharged under honorable conditions after 180 days. Ability to pay had NOTHING to do with it. Sounds like a MAJOR class action lawsuit for breach of contract---
And does this report examine how much our elected officials pay for health care and how their rates will increase? They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. For instance, voting a pay raise down or abstaining to let it become law. Too bad we don't have a preponderance of veterans as representatives. I believe in a mandantory stint of national service for young men and women and not necessarily military service.
I did not serve in the military (big mistake), but I do support those who do and those who did. It seems this nation has a history of giving its veterans the short end of the stick. I guess the attitude is thanks for giving us the best years of your life, now get the hell out and don't come back! Maybe this is because veterans seem to take things in stride, adapt, and overcome. I certainly don't think it is right to short change or change the contracts of those who gave their best for this nation. If it is a breach of contract, then a class action lawsuit may be the best option if your senators and representatives do not shoot this down.
As for the automatic pay raises or even voting themselves a pay raise, I think pay should be based on performance. Who better to judge the performance of their elected representatives? Those who elected them.

Amen to that, Stan. And don't we have elected representatives serving jail time and all the while receiving their government pension?
And going back to my previous rant, I remember back in the 1950s when congress decided the military should pay into the Social Security fund 'cuz it was getting low. We hadn't before 'cuz we had our own pension fund. Then years later Congress tried to pass a law that would deduct from our military pension that amount we would start getting when we turned 65 and began getting Social Security. That was beaten back. Take a good look at Congressional health care.
