Milton's PV2 Harpoon in CFS2

gavinc

SOH-CM-2022
Hi
You are probably aware that there is a stupendously gorgeous PV2 that Milton Shupe is developing for FS2004. He recently released an "ai" version with less detail and no VC.
I have been working at converting it for CSF2. I am using the old Alphasim dp file and air file as a starting point for the conversion.
I have the model converted fine and it works surprisingly well. It isn't multires but I had 4 on my (modern enough to fly FSX) system with no drop in FRs and even with 8 on the screen at once it was acceptable.
Unfortunately I have run into an issue with the DP file. I have run out of weapon mount points. There are 8 internal bomb spots plus 8 external rocket spots. I am using DBolts weapons and the 8 external rockets need an additional 8 mount points for the 8 rocket pylons. So this is a total of 24 mount points which appears to be the limit. As a result I don't have mount points for the external long distance fuel tanks or for the internally carried torpedo.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

you may have to use some of the mounting points over.

if you'd like send me a pm and i can give you my email. maybe we can find out how to use the points you have.

i wonder if the spitfire rails would work for the rockets? i think that would free up 6 points. try looking along those lines. there should be a four rail setup that uses less points.

DP's 24 Hardpoint Limit

Well....here's my two cents or three or whatever...

Scasm (or source code) edit an existing bgl or create a new bgl putting all the pylons into one library object. The FS2004 conversion to CFS2 will not have any breaking parts for CFS2 (to my knowledge) so a wing break off won't be an issue for putting all (left & right) pylons into one bgl library object. Thus you would use one hardpoint mount in the DP for all the pylons. I have scasm edited pylons in this way for the drop ordnance carrying FDG P-61s here in the CFS2 library. Another option is to scasm the pylons directly into the aircraft model.

It's hit and miss to get the locations for the pylons with scasm. I set the locations of the pylons in the DP first and then adjust the pylons in the bgl (with scasm) to match the DP pylon locations. For the bgl pylons to show well in the sim for adjusting locations I use a red solid texture until thier locations are set, and then switch them back to their appropiate textures.

Well, i don't see why you can't just share four of the hardpoints used by the rockets and their pylons with the tanks and their pylons. Same for the torpedo sharing a bomb mount. The torpedo is internally mounted, so you really can't see its exact location within the fuselage unless you're actually looking up the bomb bay.

yeah that would work.

it depends on where he wants them. but thats basicly what i was talking about.

Either some new ones or remakes of the stock pylons would also work. thats a bit out of my leage.

hi,
thanks for the suggestions.

BC - the tanks go inside of where the rockets fit on the wing so I can't re-use the mount points. Can definitely re use the bomb mount points for the torpedo, it will be off centre but since it is inside the bomb bay that isn't a big issue.

I think I have a solution - if I take the bomb mount points down from 8 to 4 and use the multi-bomb weapon that might help free up enough mount points.

This will take time as I don't have much free at the moment.
