Milviz F-100D is out

Indeed... now a question... the 128th had three tail flashes... one red stripe (default in the MV version), one yellow stripe (yours), and there is a baby blue one. What did those signify? I'd like having a blue one to make the set.

According to the Museum of Aviation Flight and Technology Center at Wright Paterson AFB, a 2005 restoration document states in part, "Unit markings for F-100s assigned to the 128th TFS include 12" high lettering with a yellow fin cap and 4" wide red, yellow or blue colored band below the fin cap designating the flight the aircraft was assigned."

Thank you MustangL2W.

Thanks Eric. Seems no two comouflaged birds are ever painted exactly alike. There were some very noticeable differences just between the 128th's birds after they came back from depot maintenance with a new coat of paint. I'm beginning to believe that it was an aircraft painters signature! :biggrin-new: .

I can only speak for the F-4 and F-16, but the paints you get from depot level will be strictly by the tech orders where as if it is painted at Wing level you may get variations for different reasons.
For example with the F-16A the top gunship grey would be forward as far as the tip of the rear most canopy but almost universally in Wings outside depot, it began at the end of the canopy where the two halves separated and swept forward to cover the gun to hide the gun residue. An example more specific to one Wing would be the 56th that eventually started putting a clear glossy teardrop around the gun muzzle area to make the area less likely to retain gun powder residue and what did stick, easier to clean. Such things tend to happen when a maintenance officer is looking for ways to boost his fitness report and chances for promotion.

In my day the colors on the vertical stab represented different squadrons within the Wing Yellow for the 61st, blue for the 62nd squadron ect, all within the 56th TFW.
It sounds that since the ANG operates more at the squadron level the colors represent flights within the squadron, with the whole squadron having a yellow fin cap.

Awesome... now to do me one with a blue flash! :)

Rick, I played with that skyblazers numbering. Closest I found was USN Stencil, but then modified like hell. I can send you the psd file if you want it. just send me a PM with your email address.

F-100D afterburner?

Good day fellow F-100D flyers. I have been toying around with this gorgeous bird for a couple weeks now and it is awesome but I have one concern, I can't seem to activate the afterburner. The actual flight manual that comes with the sim refers to the afterburner being activated via a manipulation of the throttle requiring 8-9lbs of pressure to the left to engage and a similar amount of pressure to disengage. The sim as modeled doesn't or isn't capable of doing this and I havn't seen any or heard any afterburner effects. Apparently the real aircraft made quite a lot of noise when the afterburner was engaged. Is there a way to program my controllers to achieve this effect? I'm having a heck of a time trying to get this bird airborne without it. Any advice or suggestion would be grateful.

:encouragement: Shift + F4 to activate the afterburner didn't work, however F4 was the ticket, I now have afterburner! Very cool! Btw Duckie, the new skins look amazing! Thank you. Thank you.

Duckie my MAN. Awesome! Now I have a complete 128th FS GAANG Hun set!! :)

(As a total sidebar question... what are you using for KMGE Dobbins ARB?) Mine in FSX is a complete fubar with buildings in the wrong spots, etc. but then again Atlanta generally is a mess in FSX.

You are correct, the Atlanta area is sorely lacking in authentic airports the ring the surrounding area. About the only really nice one is the stock ORBX KPDK.

Thanks Eric. Dobbins is one I custom made for myself with Stock FSX objects, custom made objects from a friend, a few objects from other authors, and lots of static and AI traffic. I updated the taxiway and runway system and and created my on AFCAD and parking. I think I have most of the major hangars and buildings close to their correct locations based on photos, air base diagrams and my foggy memory. Size shape and style are questionable on some but many are pretty close, especially the custom made buildings. It's more a 90s era base with traffic from all services transiting the base, a C-130 Sq, C-5s, CH-47s, and Blackhawks live there, f-18s, f-15s, USAF and USN VIP jets constantly visit and you get the idea. Unfortunately it would take me a couple months to find all the stuff I have packed in there because I wasn't very organized when I did that one.

Well, that stinks. I'd settle for getting buildings out of the taxi ways. Would you mind sharing your AFCAD file at least and any exclude bgls?

Well, I was going to release it tonight...but I've discovered a few very minor alignment issues....and a the color needs to be a tad darker both blue and red. Once those are mostly fixed, I think I've spent as much time on this one as I'm willing...LOL Hopefully this weekend...
