Milviz F-4E Phantom II

Post and you shall receive.

Woo Hoo!!! :jump:

Thanks Tom... I was stationed with this outfit long time ago. The light bar in front of the NE on the tail was not there when I was with them.- ~ 72-74

Definitely understand about the light bar. That is a model issue that will be corrected by MilViz at release. (I hope). I have also changed the USS Ranger font to make it larger and just as it appears in the pictures. Thanks for the suggestion. She is a real beauty.

Thank you for doing that one. Looking forward to the Milviz release and this repaint and a lot of the others as well. :adoration:

That's already been addressed earlier in the thread (p.3, around #187)

They are formation lights (aka "slime lights"). No J was manufactured with them, and were only applied retroactively as part of the S remanufacture in the mid 80s. You're right - those formation lights are out of place on a J, and would only suit either the "S" phase, which is a very narrow period (6 or so years) of the naval Phantoms lifespan - versus the E, on which both the USAF and other nations used those formation lights on their Es from the mid-80s through to (in some cases) the present. So they totally make sense on the E - but not on a J.

From what I have heard Milviz reps/beta testers post here, it's a vestige of an earlier model, which will be absent on the final released J model.

Hope that helps,

dl

I missed the thread. Didn't know that some variations did have them. I have a couple of USS Ranger cruise books I bought when I was stationed with VF-154 when embarked on board USS Ranger.
We had what they called Block 58 series F-4 J's.

What's available at the moment is:

  • A slatted "E" model.
  • An unslatted "E" model.

The VC is superb. As expected, not much works yet - but the look and feel is amazing.

There's a choice of Houchin cart or cartridge starts - and you won't believe what happens when you do that.

Question for Milviz TEAM - TacPack will work?

really!! looking forward to this jet. My only concern at this point is the tail art. All of the tailcodes and serials seem to be undersized and misplaced. Tailcodes on this SJ seem to be just about right but the serial is too small. I know this is picky but I base my purchases on accuracy of paints just as much as flight files. If no changes are made I hope the awesome repainters we have pick up on this. The NAVY/MARINES stuff that are being done look awesome!

I read somewhere that the plane was not (yet) carrier-capable. But apparently it is! What is the level of realism in carrier operations?
