Minimum Speed for Warping

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me what determines the minimum speed required to be able to warp in a mission? Is it the cfg, air or DP file?

I'm testing the new Curtiss H-16 Large America flying boat made by Stephan Scholz and Martin Klein. I need 90 kts IAS to be able to warp. I can only achieve this speed in a dive. The Blackburn Kangaroo, also by the same authors, needs only 55 kts IAS.

I could be wrong, but I think it is in the dp [MISC] section. It has the min speed= line, as well as listing the cruise and max speeds.

PS I also think the speeds are in kilometres per hour.
 
Hi Kurt,

I was thinking the same so I changed the H-16's speed values to that of the Kangaroo's but it made no difference. Yes, they are in kph.

My 2 cents

Yo KD;

I may be wrong, but I believe this is hard-coded in the CFS2 source code.

In order for a "player" craft to be fully accepted in the mission, (made destroy-able) it must:
1) reach 150 ft min. altitude.
2) reach 150 knots, KPH or MPH. (can't remember which)

This was a big problem when I was creating "player" ground (tanks) & sea / river (ships) missions for Vietnam in 2009 as no "player" tank or boat could do this without starting @ altitude & speed, then "slew" back to the surface.

Makes me wonder if the 150/150 rule applies to your problem?

Interesting - I always thought the warp speed was something that couldn't be fiddled with until I made the Kangaroo mission which is included in the aircraft download.

I'll have a look at other WW1 aircraft missions to see if there is any variation in warp speed.

Kevin,

It depends on the aircraft, but in my experience, it is around 100 knots. Getting a Fairey Battle to accelerate to that speed allows time for a cup of tea. :santahat:
 
I tested a number of WW1 biplanes as well as two versions of the Swordfish. Most of the aircraft had a minimum warp speed in the 70 to 80 knot IAS range. It seems the Kangaroo and the Curtiss H-16 are the extremes with 55 and 90 kts IAS respectively.
