Missing scenery. Baffling.

I recently posted about problems I was having with scenery not being listed. I did a repair of FSX, renaming existing directories. The repair process (including Acceleration) went ok.

Upon bootup, I got messages, saying several sceneries were not found (understandably, since it was a repair, and starting off fresh, right?)

Well, the state of Maryland is STILL not listed. I don't understand this. I thought a repair would reinstall the sceneries....

Hiya Navy,

Well, maybe a few questions to help home in on your problem, but not a solution 'cause we need more information from you.

Let's start by finding out:

[1] If the State of Maryland is missing in your 'select airport' menu, have you confirmed whether any other states / areas are missing in FSX? To find this, just select United States in the Country / Region box then note the number of states in the State / Province box.

[2] In FSX, it appears [I haven't checked all 113 cities] that Maryland scenery is in the folder YourFSXLocation\Scenery302\scenery. Check you have this folder and check that it's activated [it's named '0302 Base' in your FSX scenery library.

Cheers, Dave.

Thanks Dave,

Your questions will help me get to the source of this problem. MOST appreciated! When I get home this evening, I'll check it out and report back...:salute: NC

I had mistakenly thought that doing a "repair" with the FSX discs that missing scenery (or problems therein) would be fixed.

Not so, I have found. Am wondering if the repair feature is good for anything?

The problem is worse than I thought. So far, the following states are missing from the list:

Connecticut
Delaware
District of Columbia
Kentucky
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
South Carolina
West Virginia

I went down the list of installed Base Scenery directories. The following are missing:

0302, 0304, and 0402

Hey, when I mess up an FSX install, I do it right! %$#@*#
So.....if the Repair option of the FSX software did not fix this, is there a way to extract the scenery files from those discs???? Thanks. NC

You're right NC... Messed up good and proper!!

No sense doing half a job eh? :icon_lol:

Send me a p.m. with your E Mail [sorry I lost it] and I'll sort you out sir :salute:

Best, Dave.

All is well again in my flight simulation world; leastwise for now:jump:

Thanks to Dave Torkington, I found the solution to my problem. It wasn't near as serious as I'd thought.

A couple of months ago, I inadvertently deleted the aforementioned base scenery folders from the list of sceneries under settings.

I erroneously thought those folders were gone; not just from that list, but from FSX. They weren't. All I had to do was go through the selection process (as I do for any addon scenery), then move those folders down in priority where they should be, and voila! All is ok again!

Thank you, Dave, for your help!!! Pete
