Missing stuff

Gameplay choice. I always change weapons to use the MG trigger so the AI uses them. Otherwise some planes are fighting at a serious disadvantage.

The Soviet P39 for instance, would have the AI just using the 2 x 50cal MG.

Try a Quick Combat against the stock A6M2 - they'll out-turn you but won't ever fire the 20mm, because the DP is configured with the 2 x 20mm as using the Cannon trigger... so you survive being hit because they are hitting you with just 2 x 7.9mm MGs.
 
Sorry, misread things. Yes, you can change the first number after the = sign from 0 (mg) to (1), & it will show the cannon ammo separately.

The AI will still use them this way, but they still have to use the MG trigger for them to use it.

I'm not sure what difference it makes to how the AI uses them though, I recall the B24 Guy noticing a difference to how the AI used them as bomber defensive guns, & recommending configuring any as MGs instead...

If you set a turret gun as a cannon, they will have sniper aiming skills. Same with shipborne AAA. This was one of CFS2's first known issues, since the Betty's rear gunner was over-deadly with his gun set as a cannon.
 
My next issue is a dp question. I have modified the dp for the Il-4 so that it will salvo the 4 FAB-500 or the 8 FAB-250 bombs as separate, new [Payloads]. My question is: is there a way to have them salvo just 2 and 4 bombs respectively at a time?

this releases bombs in pairs

UT, I did as you and Deathwind both suggested. The result is that the HUD now shows 30 rds cannon, as it should. but this "cannon" only fires with my machine gun trigger, not the cannon trigger on my joystick. :banghead: I want my 37mm cannon! :wiggle:

change the 1 after the 46 to a 2
 
Change the trigger entry from 1 to 2 as well...

From

gunstation.0=1,46,1 .....

To

gunstation.0=1,46,2 ....
