Mission Building

highpockets

SOH-CM-2025
I am going to ask a dumb question. Do you have to use the particular theater install M/B to do your mission building in for that theater?

Don't get excited yet. I am just trying to learn how you MB guys do it. I have Cody Coyote's manual, but I haven't located it yet since my move. :banghead:

My MTO theater is on F drive. Shortcut is on the desktop. Target "F:\CFS 2 MTO\cfs2.exe"
Start in: "F\CFS2 MTO"
How the heck do I get a mission builder shortcut? I am using a no cd shortcut.

Highpockets,

1) Go into the main folder of the installation you are trying to make a shortcut for.

2) Right click on the cfs2.exe file. When the pop-up menu shows up, click on "create shortcut."

3) Take this icon and place it on your desktop or whatever place you plan on using this shortcut.

4) Right-click on the shortcut, and click on "properties."

5) For the example you used, make sure your target line looks like this: "F:\CFS 2 MTO\cfs2.exe" /BUILDER

6) Click on Apply, then rename the shortcut icon to your liking.

7) Crack open a beer, then click on the icon and it will load mission builder for that specific sim.

Just don't get lost in there; those caves can run pretty deep.

No dice,

Interestingly, I never knew about Cody's handbook until years after he wrote it, when Talon ribbed me unmercifully for not knowing about it. I had already learned most of its content by examining the content of others and learning through observation, trial, and error on my own.

I can tell where I was in my development by how I constructed the Eastern Front missions versus how I do them now.

I too learned about MB from trial and error, then Cody's first and later the most recent handbook. A few years ago I took the handbook to Kinkos and had it printed and spiral bound in a handy size. It makes for a nice read on the beach :) :wiggle:

I have tried numerous times the process above and continue to get message: "Problem with shortcut" box
The name"F:\CFS 2 MTO\cfs 2.exe"/builder specified in the target box is not a valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.
I obviously am doing something wrong.

Jim, there needs to be a space in that line between the quote after the .exe and the /BUILDER

When I posted that, it wasn't a typo.

Something you'll want to add if you haven't already is the Ops area. When you run MB it will start you in the Solomons.

In the INFO folder look for the opareas.dat and open it with notepad. Here is a list I have...
