Mitsubishi F-2A by Team FS KBT

Any of you still flying the Mitsubishi F-2A Beta by Team FS KBT? Yeah... THAT ONE! :medals: The one that no-one could believe was still a beta model? I was just curious if anyone who still is, found a different afterburner effect for the plane. The original KO F-16 afterburner works well but is a bit out of date.

I just re-installed the F-2A because I remember the "latent movement effect in the VC" as well as the stunning appearance of the external model and the way it flew. A few T&G's out of Buckly ANG in Aurora, Colorado were flawless. Upon taxiing the jet back to park, I got stuck in the seat 'cause I couldn't find the little switch to open the canopy after pulling the release lever.:p:

I still fly this bird a lot !! But in FSX :p
Without any doubts one of the most detailled and realistic military aircraft in FS9, almost on par with the planes made by Rollus...
For the burner, I used the orange one from the CORAL F-15, nice long flame.

EDIT: here are the modifications I did in the aircraft.cfg. I changed the lights 3,4,5 and 6 as follows:
//light.3= 9, -13.0, 0.0, -0.3, fx_F16ko_BURN_ONE
//light.4= 9, -13.0, 0.0, -0.3, fx_F16ko_BURN_TWO
light.5= 9, -20.0, 0.0, 0.0, fx_coral_f15ab-or
//light.6= 9, -12.0, 0.0, -0.3, fx_F16ko_GLITTER

And this is how it looks when the ambiant light is low :)

Yep... I agree, Daube. I never thought about the Coral F-15 AB effects... definately will have a go with that. Thanks for the reply...:ernae:

On other thing: this CORAL F-15 has in fact two afterburner effects. One is orange, activated at low altitude, and the other one is blueish, activated only at high altitude (above 30.000 feet, something like that). You have the choice :)

You know what ? The blue effect is not bad at all... in fact I almost prefer it to the orange :)
Here is the new line. I modified the height of the effect, it was not really in line with the engine:
light.5= 9, -20.0, 0.0, 0.2, fx_coral_f15ab-blue

It's really a nice looking bird.

Nice shots! :ernae: You know what...? I went with the blue over the orange. Looks more realistic. Thanks for the info....:greenbo:

Search flightsim.com for "Jan Rosenberg" I think he did the AB which made the KO model sparkle.

Still love this bird, the oxygen mask breathing etc...how do you open the canopy??

Ahhh the magical canopy process. It is spelled out in the manual with a page of its own -- but that never stopped most of us from getting trapped at some point:jump:

In the VC at the lower left is a big metal contraption -- the canopy lock. Flip this up by clicking anywhere on it. Then the tricky part: There is a lever/switch tucked underneath the lock. Clicking on this will pop the canopy. Of course, most times you will miss it and just re-lock the canopy.

Maybe just yanking the damn ejection seat handle is the easest solution.:isadizzy:

LOL!! :jump::jump::jump: Blackbird pulls to a stop in F-2A, can't figure out how to open canopy... pulls ejection loops. Canopy glass blows off, seconds later... seat rockets out of cockpit with Blackbird still strapped in. Seat lands some 50 yards away, upon hitting the ground.. chute deploys. Ground crew runs over to check on Blackbird.... most of whom are laughing hysterically.

The small lever is just under the canopy lock mechanism, and IS REALLY HARD to hit without locking the canopy back. It is do-able however.

I guess seeing in the readme that you should refer to the manual, should've alerted me to the pdf file which I eventually found...:redface:
So yes it is possible to open the canopy, AND hang the boarding ladder (proof below)

I think the link I quoted above, may be the AB effect that comes with the plane? and I reckon it's pretty excellent!
I was amused by the typo in the manual which says:
⑤Drug Chute Lever (It synchronizes with thrust reverser)
but it stopped the plane anyway

...Blackbird pulls to a stop in F-2A, can't figure out how to open canopy... pulls ejection loops. Canopy glass blows off...
OK maybe your version does this, mine the ground crew roll over and clutch their sides as I yank fruitlessly at those loops...?

No, my version just sits there when I pull on the ejection seat handles, so I'm basically stuck inside the jet, until someone can figure out how to open the canopy from the outside. There is usually one crew member, if not several... waiting on the ground with buckets of water in hand, once I am able to climb out of the cockpit.

So tell me, Wing_Z... where'd you find that repaint for your F-2A?

Buckets...I'm not going there.

Anyway I think that paint is one of Zsolt's.
A search at flightsim.com on Zsolt Beleznay will get you there.

To be able to click certain switches within the VC you have to be familiar with much more than mousing over items, key combinations such as ALT+Enter , SHIFT+ENTER , and so many others will allow you to interact with the VC in many dimensions ... Mike :salute:

Yes it is easier to find those switches if you move your viewpoint a little

Mercifully, just slapping the big orange thing closes the door.

I don't have a TrackIR, but if I were ever to buy a TrackIR, this plane would be the cause

I forgot to mention that paying attention to the manual is important re: the ladder as well. I accidently hung the ladder one time early on, but when ready to take off had no clue how to "un-hang" I so flew around Georgia for a while with it stuck on. And the ground crew must be kin to the ones mentioned here as they just sat on the ground support gear laughing hysterically.

That looks like one of Zsoltquack's repaints.

Grabbed both the "50th Anniversary" as well as the "Grim Reapers" skin. Zsolt does excellent work, I have numerous planes that wear his brushwork.

"Now I just gotta get out of this wet flightsuit, after being doused by the ground crew...."

Thanks for the tip! :salute:

Nothing is New

The "Similar Threads" links at the bottom of this page lead to some of the previous discussion of this plane.
Following one of Mike's links in there I found some repaints I'd previously missed, plus of course the whole canopy discussion.
No mention of dousing the aviator,though....although they say you can remove him from the cockpit??

You have a button on the front console which activates or deactivates the presence of the pilot in the VC.

That only happens when I get stuck inside the jet. It was never modeled in, but it would be funny to see the pilot get doused. I believe the name of the switch in the cockpit to remove the pilot is called "Pilot Visible" when you mouse over it with the cursor. I think it's on the lower left front panel.
