'Montoya On NASCAR'...

I shouldn't even get started on his comment "I don't know why people complain...".............but.............

That's coming from one of the biggest complainers on the track??? Ever listen to his radio channel during a race? "Wah! Wah! Wah!"

ROTFLMAO!

Yup, I know...that's why I find his comments on the subject absolutely gut-splitting. :monkies:

No, I'm not a real big Montoya fan. He's not a half bad driver, but like several other "names" at the track these days, his personality leaves a lot to be desired.

Mike, you must have been very young, if you ever saw NASCAR like it use to be, real stock cars, real racing, and no pandering to their TV pimp.

Today, the logistics of TV and the politics of NASCAR are what kills the events for us old timers.

I admit, it is great racing at times, but like ice hockey, much better to see live than on the idiot box. Superspeedways, as far as I am concerned if they continue running restrictor plates, have outlived their time. Talledega and Daytona are yawners until the "big one", then it's red flag, go to sleep, and wait. Watching qualifying at either is like watching golf!

Naw Panther, Juan's right, it's still the best racing in auto motorsports, but it cannot compare to the balls hanging off those MOTO and AMA boys. :icon_lol:

Caz,
I barely remember the "real" stock cars...heck the 426 Hemi was handicapped out and banned altogether about the same time that I was born. I do remember watching the big track events before they got "plated" after Bobby Allison's Talladega wipeout though.

I agree with ya on the over-coverage by the media is changing the sport (dare I say killing the sport) and is the driving force behind all the soap-opera stuff that you see at the track.
To me...soap opera=
-the playoffs (I mean "chase fer da cup")
-every spectator, TV crew, racing crew, etc can tune into all of the race teams out there.
-all the media zooms in on the drivers when they go off on one of their little tantrums (even if they get fined by NASCAR later on).

TV has wrecked athletic emotionalism. I use to race bicycles. You get het up. Somebody makes a mistakes and takes you out, you get down right mean. It has more than once lead to punches. That's combative sport, so is auto racing, football, hockey, most any contact sport you watch. TV wants athletes to explode, yet, when they do, they are penalized for what a normal person does under such circumstances. TV is the rotten bastick behind ruining all sports, bringing out the signifying from the ghetto hoods, dope, illicit sex, TV is a pimp that eats that up.

Blow up yer TV,
Throw away yer papers,
Move to the country,
Build you a home,
Plant a little garden,
eat a lot of peaches,
Try and find jesus on yer own.
