More Alphasim freeware...

Or potentially a soundpack for the 170B? I found one on Avsim for the Cessna 150 and 172, but since I'm not as knowledgeable on the 170, I'm not sure what engine I'm looking for...anyone know?
The Cessna 170 was powered by a Continental O-300 flat six (aka the C-145, good for about 145hp). For that matter so were the early 172's right up to the late 60s IIRC. It was basically an O-200 with an extra couple of pistons...or maybe the O-200 was an O-300 missing a couple...anyway I'm not sure if there's a soundset out there however; haven't looked too extensively.

Thanks Alphasim! I've been flying the S-55 for a couple of hours now, and I have to say that it is a very nice STABLE helicopter, plus there are a lot of great repaints out there for it. Thanks again!

Thanks for the info Drzook! I will hunt and see what I come up with...

I can't thank you enough Alphasim! I have always loved the A-3. I was stationed at NAS Point Mugu CA back in the arly 90's when VAQ-34 was still operating the type. I had several friends in that squadron while attached to VFA-305.

Was a pleasure to watch them fly, and an even better pleasure to be able to fly that aircraft in FS.

Cheers! Mike :ernae:

Can anyone recommend a good sound file for the Sikorsky S-55 please.

It's aliased to the Robinson R22 but the real machine has a 600 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340-57 radial engine.

Thanks.

Pete.

Heres something to get the carb heat to work on the on the cessna 170B in the aircraft.cfg

In the VC the Carb heat won't work

fuel_metering_type= 1 <<-- adding this will animate the carb heat

I just put together a fast and dirty sound pack for the S-55. I took a copy of the stock Robinson sound pack, then replaced the motor sounds with those from Doug Smith's Harvard sound pack (Pratt & Whittney R-1340 all the way baby!). It probably isn't totally accurate, but it sure beats the dickens out of using the Robinson sound pack.

I do want to do a bit of work to the rotor sounds as they are very light for a chopper the size of the S-55....and get Doug's permission to use his files in the sound pack.

Give me a couple days and I should have it uploaded...or that's the plan anyhow. OBIO

Just a quick Q to those playing with it too- does the S55 have spec maps in all of it's texture folders? FSX of course.

A few days ago I actually completely rebuilt the S55 exterior source to bring it up to speed with 'modern' FSX models. I don't know which version Phil released but I have the newer files to hand.

A couple of things on the cessna 170B in the aircraft.cfg, you may want to add these

number_of_cylinders= 4 <<--change to 4

In the VC the Carb heat won't work

fuel_metering_type= 1 <<-- adding this will animate the carb heat

Just a friendly heads-up... the Continental O-300-A that is in the C170B is a 6 cylinder engine.

number_of_cylinders= 6

Thanks OBIO :applause:

The C-170B is a real gem! I'm a GA guy and there are not enough good freeware GA singles and twins out there. Thanks Alpha!

Thank you Alphasim for these newest freeware releases!! :ernae:
Just a quick note to anyone interested I noticed some PW J-57 Turbojet sounds that could be used with the A-3B Skywarrior on HJG's website.
Just look in the downloads section under Sounds / Boeing on the HJG website.

I wonder if the A-3 repaints shown earlier will work with the newly reworked A-3 released by Alphasim. Anybody know?

Regards,

LT1

They should. There were a lot of updates made but there was no change to the texture mapping.

Thanks Alpha, im really digging the S-55, found this great repaint by Remi Pierlot, Hop-a-long was based at RAF Manston during the 50's and fits right in with my scenery, also was the first helicopter to fly across the Atlantic, off to check out Obio's sound-set,
cheers ian
