Your right, should have done this two years ago when the rot set in, Team SDB got out right time mind.

Not to derail us from the B-58 here, but just a quick question. I missed the AlphaSim F-8E Crusader for FS9 when it came out, and Virtavia no longer offers it it as one of their packages. What ever became of the 'Sader? Still property of Virtavia?

Mute point, is anything the property of Virtavia, probably not, most items or a large percentage of each item is from 3rd party developers, some in the case of David or Team SDB 'all' is third party so they can take them where ever they choose, the issue becomes protracted when products contain work from several parties. Once you remove one brick then others begin to follow, eventually the house becomes unstable, there certainly appears to be a growing trend for former Alphasim developers to seek alternative arrangements for their wares.

The Crusader I think belongs to Ninja Mouse (Carl), who I'm led to believe has asked Virtavia to cease and desist, thus Virtavia cannot release any of his work in any form at all, many of us gave our permission for items to go freeware, Carl didn't, with hindsight, a clever move!.

Note CVN65 was also Carls work, though I believe Carl is no longer 'in the business' but has given rights to other parties to extend and enhance the life of the product, so his Crusader may well appear under a new guise, though I did hear and was recently talking to another 'naval' developer about a new bespoke F-8, ie which of us was going to clear our back log first and get there :).

I think FSx is here for a long time and I think quite a few developers are going to stick with it, some will move on to the new platform but I think more are going to stay in FSx than those that stayed in FS9.

Having been a customer of many of those products for FS9 I am glad that a number of these old Alphasim projects be upgraded to more current FSX standards. Especially the B-58 and Enterprise. IMHO, the original B-58 is still the finest version of the Hustler ever made for Flightsim and quite the challenge to operate/land so I look forward to a fully FSX version. Side note: Regarding the Big E, I suppose it is a "moving" object and not static? The nomenclature mentions 8 locations which I assume are AI carrier tracks but if it is AI-Moving then it can be set up for AICarriers2. The updated Enterprise will be a welcome addition. I flew off the original in FS9 constantly. Next year, we will say goodbye to the real Big E as it is set to retire after over 50 years of continuous service.

I believe the gentleman upgrading CVN65 is fully versed in moving carriers, their animations and problems associated there in and having already accomplished this task within the community, I'd be very surprised if it were static only :).

But I'm sure Team SDB will verify in due course.

I second that!! The other one I'm interested in seeing upgraded/new bespoke is the Voodoo. I've done a number of skins for this for FS9 and FSX and would love a really up-to date model to play with! The Thunderchief could also do with specular textures (see avatar/signature).

Any chance??

I think the Thunderchief and Voodoo were 3rd party purchases and a little niggle at the back of my mind keeps saying Milviz, in which case re-release would be no. I didn't work on either so cannot say for sure where the source files came from.

I do know Carl did the CVN65, C-5, F-117, B-2 and F-8, maybe a couple of others, A-3 perhaps?.

David did the B-58 and SR-71

Frank did the textures for a great many of these and many more.

Correct on both counts Wily it comes with 16 basic tracks for the carrier, escort and Seaking plus formation text for AICarriers2. You'll be able to place it where you wish. The Escort and Seaking ( Courtesy Earl Watson and Michael Davies ) are standalone AI models so can be moved around independantly. [sp?]

I would like to add that Carl Edwards' excellent FS9 source files have been completely reworked as FSX native by Sylvain Parouty of RFN Clemenceau fame. Something that was omitted from our announcement. If you like Javier's Nimitz you'll "wow" at this.

The "deck furniture" is virtually all new with new mules. tractors and fire appliances and there'll be a crew.
Frank Safranek has worked his magic on the statics to represent different units.

I'm totally stoked to hear about an FSX CVN-65! A few suggestions/"hope-to-haves" from a die-hard naval aviation fan:

a "60s/70s" retro colour scheme for the plane guard Sea King. The low-vis period represents the roughly latter half of her career, but it would be a shame to miss the colourful first half. This was my sole disapointment with the FS9 version ... stuck in the 80s-90s ...

Of course, in the absence of a 60s era deck with Phantoms, Crusaders, and Skyhawks (much as I would love it, I hardly think it likely), then at least a bare deck (except for mules, crew, etc.) option. If the above is not possible, at least having no other modern a/c will not be such of an anachronism when using this carrier with planes from the pre-low-vis era.

Anyway - whatever gets produced will be greatly appreciated.

If you look at the link provided above you will see that the Seaking is indeed in the proper navy colors :), perhaps not 100% authentic for a low viz period but many Seakings retained those colors for quite a while.

I don't know too much about the 70's version but will be picking up speed hopefully and the best way to get back into the saddle would be some simple AI or statics to re-cut my teeth on, I have an RA-5 and I did a lowish poly F-8 for my angled deck Essex model but that'd only fit early 60's, I will liaise with Team SDB in due course to see if there's anything I might be able to add to help them on their way if they require it.

For 70's based you'd need Phantoms, Corsairs, Intruders, Recon Vigi's, Prowler and Hawkeyes. Gun slinging Crusaders only did tow tours, 62 & 63 (VF-33 - Modex 2xx) as part of CVG-6, of course all this opens that big USN CV can of worms and data I'd kept locked away for 18 months now, dang it!.

If you go post 74 then probably what they already have repainted in correct USN colors will suffice.

Finally an apology to David for taking his B-58 thread so far off topic, sorry David.....but I'm sure yah already knew what I'm like when ever USN is ever mentioned LOL.
