Wowewow!

There is no need to download from Japan anymore, not that there`s anything wrong with that. REALLY NICE STUFF !!

Thanks for the positive comments, but they're just paintjobs of someone else's models - all the hard work had already been done by others.

They're in queue - give it time, there's a lot of download archive rebuilding going on at present.

Like the JAP merchants, I've uploaded as complete ships for ease of installation.

To summarise, you've got the following to look forwards to:-

SHA_coaster - Wolfis Prinz Heinrich & a butchered Blue Devil dp
Only available in grey, but carries a US flag

SHA_Liberty_Ship - Phil Crowther's Liberty Ship with a BD dp
Only in grey, just a few tweaks on the colour & flag

SHA_Liberty_Ship_AP & AK - as above
but this time with alternative textures
Measure 12mod disruptive pattern
Measure 21 navy blue
Measure 22 graded blue/ grey

SHA_Merchant- Wolfis Hog Islander & a BD dp
In grey only

SHA_Merchant AK & AP - as above
grey plus alternative textures
Measure 12mod disruptive pattern
Measure 21 navy blue
Measure 22 graded blue/ grey

SHA_Tanker & Tanker_AO - Groundcrew's Brit tanker & BD dps
Grey, plus alternative textures
Measure 12mod disruptive pattern
Measure 21 navy blue
Measure 22 graded blue/ grey

SHA_Tramp_Steamer _ Phil Crowther's SS Adventure
In grey only

Uncletgt,
I wonder if you would like to do a set of these ships under the Italian flag, for the North Africa run. I know we already have an Italian flagged SS_Adventure, but a tanker and Wolfi's ships would be very useful.
BTW, the above repaints look great in convoy. Thanks!
Mike

... OK, I'll bite ...

Some things to consider ...

paintjobs - any specifics, or a generic grey with a different flag suffice?

dp's - they'll need tweaking for differing nation's armaments - BD is willing to help if I get stuck here, but we need some start points - my knowledge is sketchy at best.

For instance, just what type of armament did the Italian merchant fleet carry for self defence in WW2?

I've always focused on the Pacific, so which nations does the community think we REALLY need?

British & Empire Merchantmen (gotta have the red duster)
Italian - North Africa convoys
Do we need German vessels for the North Sea?

:blind: uh oh, this could get VERY big...

Lastly, do people want ships that have a unique naming structure (eg SHA/ SHB/ SHG/ SHI/ SHJ), or just some plug & play replacements for the ones that already exist?

......

....I'd say none or the bare minimum, probably they hadn't got enough resources to arm their merchant fleet, but I am not an Italian Navy expert.....

Splendid job Uncletgt!

As to one of your last questions, I'd think German vessels for the North Sea would be nice.

The withering attacks from Coastal Command Torbeaus and Mosquitoes to interdict German supply lines could be reproduced with them.

Cheers!

I think you've got it more or less covered with what you come up with there UT.

Anti-shipping runs out of Malta using Blenheims, Beauforts, Swordfish, and of course baldys Applecore once it's available. That what you were thinking of Mike?

Well...more or less. I haven't been able to come up with a single pic of an Italian freighter or tanker in camo/ dazzle paintwork during WW2. I have found a picture of a model of the tanker "Proserpina" which tried to get fuel to the Afrika Korps during 2nd El Alemein. That shows a grey hull and superstructure with a black funnel and a yellow band around the funnel.
When it comes to armament, I think Stef is right. Armament was probably light. RM policy was for these ships to sail in convoy protected by torpedo boats/ destroyers. Collin's "Partenope" is a good example of the kind of escort offered.
The Italian mercant navy used a flag similar to the RM, but the central crest did not have the crown above it.

Ravenna, is this what you're after ...

WIP of Italian tanker mod ...

... loosely based on a 1942 camo scheme.

Superb UT!!!!!!! Everyone does aircraft, it's great that you're filling a different hole!:applause::applause::applause:

... the data source is a bit tenuous, but otherwise the GC tanker's just gonna be a two tone camo tanker, not even a flag on it!:kilroy:

captioned as "Italian tanker Sergio Laghi, 1942", from an italian model website

... luckily enough, some of the others do have flags on them ...

more WIP ...

need to work on modified dps for the armament. Best I can come up with is that only Breda 37mm & 13mm types made it onto the Italian merchants, & even then in small numbers.

Larger guns only seem to be mentioned on small escorts & auxiliaries?

Think I'll do a basic grey & flag for each, & go easy on the "dazzle" schemes - in the main they seem to be warship schemes, not cargo vessel schemes.

Unless anyone has other suggestions:isadizzy:?
