Moses' Riding The Clutch

Could be a day or two before we can get rolling. It's not going to be easy to drag the crew away from the bronzed bikini beauties and those potent drinks with the colorful little umbrellas sticking out of them.

Besides, we are still trying to translate all these placards in the 161's cockpit. Might be helpful at some point...

Good luck to everyone! :salute:

Finally pried the crew away from the sugar white beaches and gentle trade winds. Looks like we are hauling building supplies to Merida along with some livestock. There goes the nice carpet...

Taking off: SVMC-SVMD
TOW: 41265.3
Fuel: 4796.8
Cargo: 8,500

A white-knuckle ride to start. Our navigator said the first line of mountains could be safely cleared at 10,500. Uh, not so much as we had to get her up to near 13,000 before settling into the valley. Dang war surplus maps! Can't be too hard on him though as he vectored us right in without any navaids at the airport. Had a decent visual about 10 miles out but then we dipped under a cloud layer and had to fight though the mist all the way in. Side note: We are going to need a hose to wash out the cargo area. A bit manure-ish back there. Arrgh.

This is going to be some job!

A couple of missionaries are really keen on getting up the mountain to Manizales this evening and have paid a premium for us to make it happen. We also have another passenger sitting way in the back with his donkey. Juan Valdez I think was his name. He paid us in bags of coffee beans. Good enough.

Taking off: SKBO-SKMZ

heh- got the approach backward on that chart (going into SKMZ), also beware of the weather if you continue on tonight.

Good luck.
:guinness:

Ah yes... Mr. Valdez... When he found out I was leaving before sun-up he declined to fly with me. Something about him wanting to see the soil from the air during daylight.

Sure makes a fantastic cup of java. I told him he'd be a sensation in the States with coffee like that. "Everyone has to have cup for breakfast... and we drink it 'till we go to bed."

Walked away saying to his donkey, "Come now Conchita... let us think how we might do what that gringo said... sell our coffee beans to the Americans..."

Thanks MD and rgr on the coffee Rob. It will come in handy the rest of the way. Juan thanked us, quietly tipping his hat and walked away with Conchita in tow.

So far so good with the Languedoc.

Departing for Pitalito. Hope our navigator is up to the task with no navaids there.

Bit of a pucker factor on this leg. The first half was fairly uneventful, save for dodging the mighty Machin volcano. We picked up the Magdalena river and followed it on into the Neiva VOR and turned to heading 215. But as usual, the viz dropped to two miles and we had to fly our approach lower than usual to pick up the ground to maintain our bearing. Thankfully the airport faded into view a couple of degrees off our starboard side when it was supposed to and we landed without incident.

Enjoying your great shots of a gorgeous bird ... what a wingspan ... looks like a glider almost!

Good Luck Kevin!!

Working these fantastic events over here at SOH is greatly appreciated.

A great turn out .... should be twice as many!

Thanks Austin. Hope you all are enjoying the event.

Quick trip to the top of the mountain to deliver plantains and frozen alligator gar. (Better hurry on that frozen part).

The gar has landed! Had to come in a bit on the high side to keep from hitting a clothesline.

Of note: One of the locals said a Beech twin landed here a few days ago, causing all kinds of ruckus. Some crazed gringo waving a pistol around about being charged a landing fee or some such.
