Mosquito getting closer to completion....

ahh an aircraft that ALWAYS makes me smile! my favourite warbird, possible favourite aircraft ever, glad there'll be a mossie in the skies soon... even if it is over NZ.... can they loan it to the Fighter Collection please.... long way to travel just to see one fly again :icon_lol:
 
Its eventual destination will be Virginia Beach, Virginia, where the owner, the Military Aviation Museum is based. However, had it been completed early this past year, the plan was to take it to England for the display season, before finally coming to the U.S. Depending on when the aircraft is completed, it will be interesting to see if something similar can still be done. There seems to be a lot of confidence that the aircraft will definitely be flying in 2012.
 
This is Jerry Yagen's one John? I gather there are another two at Ardmore for restoration to airworthy status, it'll be nice to have Mossies in the air after so long. :jump:
 
Yes its the Jerry Yagen one ..and yes there are two other Mosquitos under restoration here - one for a local owner, another for US collector IIRC

There's a rumour that it could be at our local Air Show in late January but I have my doubts. Maybe it will be at the Wanaka Air Show in April which I unfortunately won't be able to make it to. There is another air show at Ohakea (RNZAF base) in March for the RNZAF 75th. I might be able to catch it there if I go and if the Mosquito makes it. In any case hopefully I will catch it at Ardmore for one of it's test flights.
 
Andy, it is indeed Jerry Yagen's (also can be referred to as the Military Aviation Museum or Fighter Factory example - all one in the same). I believe it was recently stated that the aircraft will be finished in the markings of a RNZAF Mosquito that took part in the famous raid on the Amiens prison, otherwise known as Operation Jericho.

One of the other Mosquito's at Avspecs is the Flying Heritage Collection example, which will be another restoration to airworthy (the Flying Heritage Collection itself cannot confirm anything about it, though the airframe is clearly registered to them).

I,m very good with ply and balsa , surprised they did,nt ask me to help :icon_lol:HAHA , nah really this seems to be the beginning , mossies all over the place and one hell off a choice , forget the Vampires and laters the Mosquito has to hold a name for unparallelled fame , time to create a real world virtual Mossie squadron :icon_lol::medals:
 
I suspect Wanaka will be a good bet..but then again, there was a strong rumour it would be at Omaka this past Easter!
I'd travel a long way to see this bird.
Toughest decision: take all the camera gear and miss seeing it (effectively), or just go, and experience the show?
