Mosquito revival in France

Woohoo! a mossie!

anyone know more about this particular bird? is it going to be museum restored or flight restored?

i miss the old UK based one... saw that one go down unfortunately... but hey i'm staying positive for a new mossie on the scene!
 
While this is a scaled-down replica in France, there are two actual Mosquitos that are nearing flight status - one in Canada, and another in New Zealand that will be based in the US.

The example being restored in New Zealand, owned by Jerry Yagen (Military Aviation Museum in Virginia), it is hoped will be debuted in a couple of months time, flying at the Classic Fighters air show in New Zealand. If all goes as planned, it will then spend the summer air show season in the UK, before coming to the US at the end of the year. You can view past progress on the Avspecs website, updated as of November 2010:

i hope it does i really do... of all the aircraft i miss Mossie has to be at the #1 spot, shame nobody is restoring a mossie in the UK or willing to give one to them lot at Duxford... The Fighter Collection...

It's certainly an accomplishment but it's gonna look a little odd with those deep cowlings to accommodate those Lycoming flat sixes; kinda like sticking a Kinner on a Spitfire. I wish them the best with her.

...3:4 Scaled, but I'll be glad to see her flying (if it's planned) at the next La Ferté Alais Air Show. Congrats to the Canadian and New Zealand teams that will have the chance to ear the incredible sound of a Merlin engine pair. :medals:

The NZ Mosquito is likely to miss the Classic Fighters Air Show..its running a bit behind schedule..hopefully I will catch it when it on it's on its first flight though. Theres another Mossie been restored in NZ but that might be a few years away yet.
 
Yeah, I have been thinking that, with the latest progress I have seen, it would be cutting it awfully close, to be flying in two month's time. As they say in warbird restorations - the last 10% always takes 90% of the time. ;) It does appear that the Flugwerk FW 190 from Chariots of Fire Fighter Collection is completed, and the Reid family's Avro Anson seems very close to completion. Last I have seen/heard, it was undergoing engine test-runs. The Anson alone will be an amazingly rare sight to behold, flying!

Speaking of the French-based 3/4 replica, here is a video of some recent fast taxi-runs. (For being a 3/4 scale replica, it is still a large aircraft!)

Note: at the end of the video, when the aircraft suddenly swerves, the conversation that follows is to the effect of the pilot saying that he was surprised by the torque, and the driver replying, "yes, it's a normal reaction of the plane, as expected".
