Mosquito ?

I tried searching for the old thread but didn't get a hit so apologies for starting a new thread on the subject...

Anyway, what seems like a long time ago, some renders were shown of a very nice looking Mosquito FB.VI and I was just wondering if that project is still alive? If so, are there any updates? I'm hoping it's still in the works.

I'd love to see a good one also. I would buy the Jst Flight one...but repaints are very limited.....not to wild about the supplied ones.

Also, wasn't there mention at one time of there being an FSX Mosquito under development by Dave Garwood?

Speaking of Mosquitos, Avspecs, the company restoring Jerry Yagen's example to airworthy, has made the official announcement and invitation to a special airshow on September 29, of this year, at Ardmore, NZ, where the Mosquito will be making its first public debut flights, along with other ceremonies dedicated to the aircraft, the guys who restored it, and those who flew and maintained them in WWII. As can be expected, the aircraft will be flying within the weeks beforehand leading up to the event. The latest updates on the progress on the restoration really seems to be illustrating that it's coming down to the last details and finalizing work.

The JF Mossie is a fs9 port as well, though it comes with a TR Mk.33. some day. In the mean time , there are Hornets!

This is a great read about Mosquitoes. This man, Don McVicar, was a pilot for RAF Ferry Command in WW-II, and flew many different types of planes. After the war he bought two Mosquitoes with the idea of entering them in the air racing circuit. His perspective, as a very experienced bomber/transport pilot, flying these ships, is most interesting. They are, apparently, a bit of a handful, especially on one engine. This is one of the things I wish FS flight models simulated better, single engine performance in twin engine planes. In FS, there is zero additional challenge with an engine out. It would be cool if there was more realizm here... I like the JF Mossie. As dated as it is, and even as a port over, the VC is beautiful, and she's fun to fly.

Thanks John. The VS project was the one I was thinking of; I posted the question over on their forum. I didn't know Dave was working one too. Nice photos of the restoration project!

Dave Garwood was working on a Mosquito in the past as well. Some images has been posted on the BritSim forum in the past, but it has become very quiet around this project.

Regarding the photos, there's absolutely no credit on my part, those are just some amongst the updates that Avspecs has posted to their Facebook page, one that I really enjoy following. Like Midwest Aero Restorations, I love that they put just as much effort into even getting the font types correct on the stencils and placards, as anything esle on the aircraft, and its that type of attention to detail that will get them the awards, praise, and the clients.

If I miss this, there are two more Mossies beeing restored to airworthy condition in NZ but these might be a few years away yet.

One of those is coming here to be part of Gerald Yagen's collection. So unless you act quick it will not be in NZ for long. It is about 6 months away from its first flight too.

As per John's post above I will hopefully get to the airshow (which is been held specifically for the Mosquito) at Ardmore Auckland (I live about 2hrs drive south) on the 29th September 2012 where Jerry Yeagan's Mossie will be flying - with any luck.

One of the Mosquitos is going to stay here but that is someway off before flying. The other Mosquito is a complete airframe but needs full restoration - that arrived about a year ago. Theres another not to far from completion in Canada IIRC. So come 2020 or so there could be 4 flying Mosquitos.

Steve, that is the same one mentioned in my posts above. The plans, straight from the "horse's mouth", is that it will be flying in late September, with the official debut flying event with the aircraft taking place on September 29th.
