And FWIW, the Bohmerland was a three seater ........ rather a long wheelbase to put it mildly!!!

Or maybe they didn't realise the true meaning of the name.

in many ways, they haven't, but then again, they are mostly responding to customer demand. none of the die hard harley fans wants them to embrace more modern technology like water cooling, over head cams inverted forks, and shaft drive.
for all it's technological wizardy, the v-rod doesn't sell as well as the dyna or the fatboy. and except for the ergonomics it's actually a cool bike.

that aside, i knew a guy (a friend of don garlits, actually) who has a scott flying squirrel in running condition. it's a water cooled 2 stroke from 1932. it wieghs a ton. he also holds the only original blue prints for the indian chief.
his father was an engineer for them. indian has offered him big bucks be he won't sell. i think he plans to will them to a museum. i have seen them and the sense of history you get looking at them is really cool.

My wife had FatBoy with Sampson straight pipes, I have an ElectraGlide Ultra classic, with stock pipes/mufflers. She said she was embarressed to ride with me... that my bike sounded like a Honda...:kilroy:

ooohh fatboy...nice bike! i like the solid wheels. my suzuki had similar ones for that very reason. sampson pipes are nice too.

i would never pipe a touring bike though. (speaking of your ultra, one of my fav bikes) having done plenty of touring on this:

(it had bub's pipes) the last thing i would want is 600+ miles a day listening to loud pipes. 10-12 hrs of loud is extremely tiring. when i toured i wished i still had my stock pipes, and the bub's weren't even that loud. someday i will have another bike. i am hoping my next will be a goldwing.
quiet, comfy, nice sound system, plenty of stowage, reliable as a framing hammer. not to mention all the other goodies.

The most we've ever done was 800 miles in one day. It was the last day of a 3 day trip home. We rode from southern Louisiana to the Harley factory in York, Pa. Nice trip. I listened to my wifes straight pipes the whole way, and as you said, it wasn't fun. My buddy in Houston, a hard core Honda fan, had a Gold Wing, but when he totaled it, he switched to a Harley Ultra Classic. He is an instructor for motorcycle safety course, not sure which tho.
 
have you ever seen any of the "ride like a pro" videos from jerry paladino?
awesome stuff. best $36 i ever spent on my bike
 
A bit off topic, but Honda rolled the last motorcycle off the line here in the states today.... that was one of the first plants Honda built in the U.S... but they are shipping the motorcycles back to a new plant in Japan...
