Moving Right Along: But East - Dagua

Well things continue to move along. This is But East as the Japanese called it. Refered to by the Allies as "Dagua" for the small village it was located by.

Wewak-Wirui and Boram are with the tester. He's salivating about dropping bombs all over my new scenery. But what the heck, that's why I'm making them....:costumes:

Look on the bright side Pen...its not the scenery he wants to bomb: its what's using the scenery!:costumes: Seriously, this looks very good. and I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks Gents;

I got started on the GSL last night. The Runway at Dagua was huge, 2024 Meters. But like the other PNG North Shore Area Fields it was also a very "Facility Thin" Base by Allied standards. So don't expect big hangars and such on these fields other than a couple of small ones at Wewak Central. Some of what they call Revetments are nothing more than a scratch in the ground and a worn spot on the grass. As far as B/E Dagua is concerned I've read one report that they actually did a lot of the Maint. work in Dagua Village as well as dispersed A/C there......

As I go along I find more and more of the MS Stock bases are in the wrong place. Cape Glochester is another Field in my Cross Hairs.
And then there's PM and all of the fields there...... Sometimes I'd like to just yank the stock fields completely and Land class it all over with whatever surrounds it and start from scratch.

BTW, ignore the three little black spots in the photo above. They're my test buildings to make sure the SCASM is right and the background won't float up and swallow them.

ALSO.... I decided to skip Cape Wom. It was only a Crash Strip. There's already quite enough in the Wewak area with Wirui and Boram. Instead I will be proceeding up the Coast to Tadji Airfield at Aitape. I'll then package 5 Fields for the first AF PNG Scenery Pak.

General Kenny's 5th Air Force intelligence unit has sniffed out some evil doings in the Wewak area and the ever ready 90th Bomb Group (Heavy) was sent out to do its normal job of destroying anything that remotely resembles an Imperial airfield.

Of course the 7th Pursuit Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group was only too happy to accompany the Liberators on their mission.

So Nice of you to Bomb our Empty Base. We were waiting for you a little further North.... We'll See You Soon Jagd-San.......Evil Laugh!!!!

But East - Dagua

Nothing like a Strip with a delightful Sea Side View......as you sit on the beach with a tall fruity drink and feel the breeze from the sea.....

but wait.....the drone of many engines and the sounds of Bombs raining with the explosions and fireballs......

I guess the Pig roast will have to be canceled this evening......

Thanks Pen. I am SO looking forward to Tadji strip. The RAAF Beauforts will feel right at home!

Thanks Again Gents;

I' m moving along well. I've got one thing on the Base Texture Alpha I need to fix and But East - Dagua is done. Next up is But West.

I've decided that I'm "going to press" after But West is done. From there I'll release each drome as I complete it. The initial Package will create a folder for you to install called "AF PNG" or somthing like that. When new bases come out all you'll have to do is drop the new BGL and Texture into their respective folders and install a new GSL GOB. That's It.

I'm also including something I'm calling my "Fully Loaded Layout" with each field. As I build fields with mission building in mind I don't include vehicles and any other objects that move or can be moved with ease. So I'm including a Layout file with all of the AA Sites and A/C Revetments already full. Mission builders will only have to cull out what the don't want, they won't have to allign 70+ A/C in their revetments...etc. It's already done. If you want to change any of the units you can do it in the MB or a mass change in Notepad, ie change all of the KI-43-II's to KI-43-III's or KI-61's at once..

After the first package is out I'm looking at Tadji, Cape "G" and god help me....... Port Moresby and Hollandia.......

I finished up a couple of adjustments to the fields tonight and then decided to play around a bit.

I escorted 48 B-25C-1's against Wirui and Boram with 15 other P-38H's. 16 Oscar's and Tony's defended. Came in up the shoreline and slid left up the ridge behind Boram just as 8 Oscars were taking off. I dropped down the ridge in a hard right and came in behind them. The poor bugger at the tail end was my target, he never got his gear up....

Merry Christmas

From But West..... If I can get things bundled up and the
Read Me stuff finished the Wewak area fields shounld be up by this weekend.

G'dnight All.

The 5th Air Force was busy this morning spreading Holiday wishes and Christmas cheers to the IJA at But East. Escort was compliments of the 9th FS, 49th Fighter Group.

The IJA troopers were heard to complain about lumps of coal in their stockings while their commanders griped about the lack of snow on Christmas morning in the tropics...
