MR's Guam Is Up And In The Queue!

Guam scenery is installed and looking spectacular. Don't forget to check out Rota.
Just got the time to pay her a visit. :applause:

So when will you be able to redo the whole Pacific Chris? :icon_lol:

Seriously though, very impressive. Thanks for putting in the time for these. I'm really enjoying them.

but I've noticed that some small islets you can see using STRM geotiff as a reference in G2K simply disappear if you view the SWBD file for the same area in G2K

Hiya UncleTgt,

Can you please expand a little on GeoTiff? How does it work? How do you have it set up? Which of the resample data files do you use? And what other utilities might I need to be able to work with it? Give me a little run down? It sounds and looks pretty cool. Thanks!

Just what I want to hear MR and co! Keep on working! I'm sure You sooner or later will get it all together and we will have an even more beautiful PTO setup. Of course we will never (I really hope) come to the point when, that's it, PTO finished! But having some kind of a reference install point with todays available scenery makes it a lot easier for future upgrades.
Thanks for your dedication.

Thanks Chris very much for this wonderful work ...if you have outstanding questions about Guam, i have a friend here in my town who was once base commander and he may be able to help with questions you might have.

I have been waiting on the coast line solution to reinstall, as i would like to have all the MR bases AND the new mesh but have not seen a solution yet. There is a software that makes coastlines for CFS2 but i dont know how to use it. i heard mention i think that someone might be making the coastlines for the pacific but have not seen it happen yet. So i will wait to see how it all comes out.

Thanks Morton, CrisGer, Shadow Wolf7, dvslats, UncleTgt mariereid and everyone for all of the useful feedback and comments. I appreciate it.

Morton, I am still compiling that list.

One place you can go right away to get all of the latest DEI airfields- built exclusively for Rhumba's mesh and masks is to the NEWS link page at my website.

There are two DEI packs linked there as well as a clickable map page showing images of all included airfields.

Also, if you were to download the Micronesia Pack from the Downloads page, that in cludes all of the latest island and atoll airfield- lots of really nice GSL/LWM style airfields that were originally included in Ellis Island and Pacific Air Ferry mini packs. The Gallery page for Micronesia also shows good screenies of these newere airfields.

Ah, ha! Just found the Ellis Island and Pac Air Ferry Packs. Here are the links.

Pacific Air Ferry

Ellis Islands

Unfortunately, at this time, most if not all of the MR Solomons, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Taiwan, etc.. are only guaranteed in the stock CFS2 mesh/mask set up.

PS! : If you find that the Pac Air Ferry pack does not include Norfolk Island- it is included for sure in the MaksRider Micronesia Pac. But it should be in that Pac Air Ferry pack- I hope. :d

BTW: I am doing some heavy duty experimenting over at Tinian. Gonna try doing the entire island using the G2K linked-texture-to-VTP1poly approach. Its pretty cool, but like all things G2K it can be pretty taxing on the old nervous system. But I figure that now is as good a time as any to develop the routines and procedure to make the process as close to second nature as it cabn ever be.

The coolest thing about this method is that you can use your same custom texture files normally be used in the "blended" texpolys. But using this approach- a flattened surface is no longer a pre-requisite. So the airfield taxiways and such can have undulations and stuff in them. Its fun taxing B-29s up and down little hills and depressions!

'The next neat thing about this method of ground texture is that G2K puts the texture "in" the ground- under, instead of on top of CFS2'sd "detail texturing".

A couple of screenies:

One drawback, and what makes this process a tad on the time consuming side is that you can't use a full tilt 512Sq bmp texture file. Apparently, when it comes to VTP1s, G2K/CFS2 automatically reduces what ever custom texture you supply to a 256sq texture file. So an airfield that would normally get handled by a single texpoly textured with a 512sq bmp needs to be handled as 4 VTP1 polys each with its own 256sq bmp texture file. Otherwise an unacceptable amount of detail gets lost.

BTW, the ground texturing in the screenies above is a very, very basic rendering of North Field, Tinian. Just something for me to play/experiment with.

Hi Mask,
I've got a quick question. Can you tell me which number of the gob file covers Rota?

I would like to keep your previous scenery of Micronesia, and would just like to clear up the gsl on Rota between these two.

Tanks, Dv

EDIT; I forgot that the Micronesia scenery uses api.
So then I could just delete MN_Rota_Island.bgl and the rotawa.bmp?
I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
Dv

Thanks for bringing this up. I forgot about a conflict with old Rota. Yes, removing the old MN_Rota_Island.bgl should take care of it. No need to dump the texture file unless you just want to.

FYI The gobs for Rota are:

Airfield 0c0674.gob
Harbor 0be672.gob

Cool beans, thanks for clearing that one up Mask.

All's well now. Rota has your latest from Guam and I can still make hops from Christmas Island with an install of Rhumba only mesh. :d

Appreciate It,
Dv

PS: Don't mind the wc, that's me messing around.

Aahh! Christmas Island! I learned a lot about how to use G2K and Sander's AutoCoast making that island.

It was a bear!

Update: Marianas, Tinian

This does not really belong in this thread but just thought I would post the lastest on North Field, Tinian.

I've just about completed the task of drawing/creating North Field "template" using FSSC. Still need to do the base "diddly bop" area.

Finished playing with the G2K linked poly procedure. Feel confident abut it. Will be giving it a go on this field, I think.

Its a cool base. Included are the hardstands used by the 509th Composite Group (Enola Gay, et al.) as well as still existing buildings and service apron leftover from Japanese Airfield No.1 here on this very spot, on Ushi Point.

Thanks Pen32win for those beautiful Japanese buildings and air raid shelters! They are the exact ones!

They are visible out the window off the port bow as one awaits final take off clearance for runway Able9.

This should be a pretty cool airfield to fly in and out of. :jump:

GETTING LOST HERE!

Okay guys. I have been away for awhile after doing some of the library restocking. I have been following this post as I want to update my MR fields. Where do I start? I have all the MR fields, Rhumbas mesh, installed with the DEI update. But I am getting lost as what is required here for the Marianas.
Also intrigues me is this. When I install gobs into the GSL and update the GSL file with them they ( the gobs) can then be removed? Am I reading this right?
I think I have spent too much time underwater and not long enough safety stops( :icon_lol: ) as my brain appears to be  on this. I am realing getting confused here!

Maskrider strikes again! Super-cool, Chris!

UDATE:

Well, got the "diddily bop" part of the base done. Just got to get a perimeter road drawn in and it will be time to commence painting.

Two screenies. One shows the view looking from the NE corner to the SW corner. The other shows a view, slightly elevated above the west end of Runway Able9 looking ENE. It shows how very much a part of the new field the old Japanese field- in the forground- was/is. The Mickey Mouse Club looking double hardstand in the left center of the screenie is one of the two 509th Composite Group double hardstands- the one that was used by the Enola Gay. The loading pit- not shown- would be in the very front edge of the round part of the hardstand just where the frying pan joins the frying pan handle.

Really amazing!!

I don´t have a working CFS2 PTO install but looking at this and the B-29 fleet makes me feel that I´m missing a lot. Keep on!!

Thanks MR.:applause:

Re: Update

Excellent work Chris...lookin' forward to sending good ol' "El P.D.L.G." to its rightful home base:jump: She's been assigned to TDY at Guam while i explore my options for a suitable megabase download for Tinian.

Udate on North Field, Tinian

Making progress. This a is a pretty decent "standard" issue "blended" Tinian. The masks and coloring still need some tweaking- as does the flat area- its bit too low I believe and not quite wide enough on the east side of the field.

After I get this one dialed in- I will see what difference one of those G2K linked texture poly editions turns out.

North Field Tinnian just about in the can...

Well, I am about as satisfied with North Field, Tinian as I am gonna get. Needs a few more trees and some G2K roadwork but other than that this airfield is ready to rock!

Made a version using the G2k linked poly approach. It looks fine- but boy it sure is a lot of extra work for not really significantly improved results. I will play with it some more, though.

Next up will be West Field, Tinian.
