MSFS 2020 vs. MSFS 2024 Images

This video (which I posted here last week in another thread), also shows all of the MSFS 2020 to 2024 comparison screenshots that MS/Asobo have released - of course make sure to view it on Youtube in full resolution:

I thought the Grand Canyon 'in-SIM' video at the recent event was superb - hard to tell from the real thing! If that level of detail is replicated World wide then we are in for a treat! The test for me will be looking at the textures of the ground beside airport runways and taxiways. Currently these seem to be flat, coloured tiles often with blurred texture.

I know that at W88 the grass is depicted as grass, but that's a much smaller field. I'll try to remember to see what's between the taxiways at KGSO when I get home.

Edit: It's (wet) grass...

The new Grand Canyon in MSFS 2024 is made using photogrammetry. There's no reason why Asobo/MS couldn't also bring that into MSFS 2020, but I imagine they want to keep it only in 2024 as extra incentive. As has been confirmed in some of the early release videos, the ground scenery in '2024' won't look much if any different than '2020' when flying at moderate or especially high altitude (the key changes there will be the improvements in lighting and clouds). The new world details of course only come into view when you get closer and closer to the ground - details that pop into view based on LOD.

This video demonstrates it quite well, how when in-flight over a typical/run-of-the-mill area of the world, the new sim really doesn't look all that much different than '2020' from a moderate altitude, but as you approach the ground the new details begin to show, like the more detailed ground elevation, more detailed vegetation, and different types of crops in every field (for instance, after the 8:27 mark, landing in a field of corn stalks):

The comparison videos of some areas, like the grand canyon, seem washed out and less colorful. Pity. The detail, though, is incredible.:)

I just wanted to show some pictures of my neighborhood comparing fs2020 vs fs2024 beta

First here is an area view of the location where our house is located from 2020:
screenshot-20241012-4.jpg
Its pretty basic, it has a house at about the right location and the roads are in the right place but the yard is bare.
Here is a pic for the same location in 2024:

This could be a photo graph, the shape of the house is right, you can see our pool and its the right shape, even the stepping stones in the lawn going out to the corner of the yard.

Here is a drone shot in FS2024 from the street in front of the house.

screenshot-20241012-2.jpg
Compare that to google street view (actual photo) does not quite look right, trees are very bolder like, but you can see the resemblence.

Its not bad, now the bolder like thing in front of the house in FS is a tree we had removed maybe 3-4 years ago, the black SUV in the street view pic is a vehicle we got rid of more than 2 years ago.

With the new 'walk round' feature and improved scenery, I think my bush aircraft, such as the DHC2 Beaver, are going to get a lot more flying time.

OK, this is just for S#+t and giggles, I was amused by the following statement in this post over at the MSFS Official 2024 Forum....

===>>> " ... every rock on Earth" .... populate "its digital Earth (the digital twin) as close to our real world as feasible ...

I've got a rock at the end of my driveway. I got out my carpenter's wooden six-foot folding measuring rule and laid it on top of the rock for reference. Now of course it is covered by a canopy of large pine trees, and I believe a maple tree.

I'll be looking for it in MSFS 2024 y'all. :costumed-smiley-034
