MSFS 2024 Specs

Microsoft shows 50 GB for storage required, while several of the streamers and developers who have gotten their hands on the sim say the install size is only 28 GB.

There was an amended spec sheet posted by Microsoft on FB which now includes required bandwidth :

I only have a I7-GeFOrce 1070TI and barely 50MBps but it runs MSFS2020 fine so I think I will test the new sim on this then see what is required thereafter. At the moment the budget/immersion balance is smelling like an upgrade to an Nvidia 4070Ti. Somehow I think my 15th Century rural broadband will more be the constraining factor.

The PCs that Microsoft set up for the Youtubers to test out MSFS 2024 are said to have featured the i9-14900K, RTX 4080 Super, and 64 GB ram.

I don't know of any program in gaming that requires 64 GB of RAM. No matter, it will be inexpensive and easy for me to upgrade if necessary.

What drove me to making the buy was my 2016 (and already upgraded once in 2021) rig was getting to the point where it would have been economically unfeasible to upgrade it further...So I decided to take the leap.

It might be closer to 50 if you get the Aviator package, but then you also have to account for the Community folder too. At the very base level, the "Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe" folder is 577 GB. The Community and Official folders account for 576 GB of that. The actual protected core files are only just over 2 GB. If MS/Asobo is going to keep things down to 50 GB, that means a LOT of on-demand delivery. That might have to include aircraft as well, since I just checked my Official folder and just the Asobo and MS aircraft, along with their respective liveries, add up to just under 60 GB. If they have to stream a fresh copy of each aircraft with every flight, that means that there will be no way to tweak anything like ground handling. Hopefully, there will be an option to have local copies.

I just posted over at the official forum regarding the 50 GB requirement. Yes, nearly everything is streamed on-demand, but there is also an option to install items locally. That means the ~15 planes that I'm interested in so far will have a home locally where I can tweak stuff.

So everything in streamed? Whoa! 😳

I guess the cloud has truly come. This is exciting, but what a shift for someone who is more experienced with running most things locally.

I wounded what the impact will be to the amount of internet ‘budget’ is consumed for a typical ‘flight’.

I don't have 2020 but according to You-Can-Run-it, my system exceeds the recommended specs for 2020. So I should hopefully meet 2024 min specs

According to the spec list, only my CPU is under the ideal listing, and that is a simple plugin.

My biggest problem running MSFS2020 is getting my controls/peripherals to work consistently. My flight controls randomly just quit operating the aircraft, causing the inevitable crash. Reload, and they might work again. Hopefully this does not occur with the new sim. It does not occur with any other sim I play on my rig.

I'll be downloading quite a bit locally, but especially the planes that need to have tweaks to steering angles and diff. braking. That 50 GB will be far surpassed in no time.

It will be interesting to see how it runs on my system, especially in VR.
I'm just over the recommended specs on my GPU with a 2080Ti but I'm a generation behind on the CPU, i9 9900K.
Looking at online comparisons between my CPU and the i7 10700k its very close with the 10700 only being about 1% faster so I'm hopeful it will cut it.

For those of you with AMD AM5 socket systems with lower CPU, NewEgg has the recommended high end Ryzen 9 7900X CPU on sale for $321.12 USD (41% off.) They also have a new trade-in program for used CPUs & GPUs.

I upgraded my internet through my ISP to 1.5Gbps D/L three days ago, and yesterday added a Nighthawk RS700S Tri-Band WiFi 7 to the mix for good measure. Nothing like being prepared for the sim road ahead. My interweb has literally 'taken off' now, and the wife is threatening to do the same in the near future. My name is Milan, and I am a flight sim addict.
