MSFS 2024 Specs

I just thought it strange that MSFS being a Microsoft product that they would see it as an opportunity to push more users to upgrade to the current version of windows.

My system is on Windows 10 and am concerned when it will no longer be supported.
The in-place upgrade on my Asus laptop went without a hitch, but that was after I moved to my desktop that was built with 11. It's a bit if a change cosmetically, especially with the task bar icons being centered by default (15 seconds to change). But when you do make the change, look up Windows 11 God Folder and follow the instructions you find. By default, many of the older Control Panel functions are now migrated to the newer Settings interface, but the God Folder gives you much more granular control.

Building a new system is like waiting for the bus. Quit waiting for the next one. Eventually you'll have to get on one that comes along if you ever hope to get anywhere.

Just when you're thrilled to death walking out the front doors of the computer store with your brand new, sparkling, shiny system, the LED lights of which would put the Rockefeller Christmas Tree to shame, ... you are completely unaware in that love-struck moment that a truck just pulled in to the rear loading docks, unloading the next, new and improved, state of the art hardware, which is now AI enabled and will not only run MSFS2040 like child's play, but will clean your house, get your groceries, cut your lawn and fly you anywhere your heart desires. You cannot pause progress regardless of how hard you try.

My advice - do your research, and build it with future-proofing in mind.

WRT to CPU's, ensure multi-core capable, and the cooler they run, the better. High temps will put a damper on the party, and shorten life expectancy. MSFS, will, for the foreseeeable future, continue to be CPU bound.

Yes, but doing so would likely eliminate a good number of potential MSFS 2024 purchasers. Better to hang onto Win 10 compatibility now, maybe force an upgrade to 11 later.

Just got my new system unpacked and up and operating last night...My first experience with Windows 11...It is cosmetically different, and some functions have moved, but so far, the transition seems to be smooth.

I seem to fit the recommended settings with everything I believe, but one thing that bothers me, is that even now all these years in, the photogrammetry scenery still doesn't stream quickly enough with 50Mbps, so does it stream quicker in 2024? IMHO the PG stuff has been shockingly bad, at least London, I can only hope it's better and quicker in the new version!

FSX is what did me in and I never Flight Simm'ed after that.
Got tired of Hardware/Software chase for FPS.... :(

Got tired of Hardware/Software chase for FPS
My gaming laptop has a 1060 mobile graphics chip, and even that would pull flyable frame rates at a 1080 resolution. You just have to tweak a few things in the settings to get a balance between what looks good and what performs well. On my current rig with a 3070 running DLSS and DX12, I occasionally dip down to around 20FPS in bad weather and at complex airports, but for the most part, I'm running anywhere from 40 to 60 frames, and sometimes even over 100 with clear skies and a simple plane.

Frame rates are also so plane-and-scenery dependent.

The other day I flew the Super Decathlon over the //42 Circle B Ranch in Wyoming. Averaged about 100 fps.

Yesterday I tried the A380X Alpha flying from LAX. 16-20 fps. On a 13900K with a 4090.

Originally I decided to go it slow and upgrade my PC to 32 K RAM and live with 1080 video output for a while.

More RAM of similar type was ordered. Exchanging the RAM is so simple, right? Used the same slots, oriented the RAM cards correctly
and pushed until the tabs fell into position. Power on and only the fans came on. No mouse, no monitor output, no posting. Put the original RAM back in and still no posting. Concluded something must have popped on the motherboard. I have neither the time nor knowledge to fix.

Since the PC was not Windows 11 capable, it was time to purchase one that is and go for better graphics. Since I've had good luck with Cyberpower with 2 PCs I had them build the following:

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z90 Gaming Wifi7 DDR5 ATX w/Wi-Fi7, 1GbT LAN
CPU:Intel Core Processor I9-14900KF 8P/16 +16E 302 GHz [Turbo 6.0GHz] 36 MB Cache LGA1700
RAM/System memory:32Gb DDR5/6000MHzDual channel
Video Card: Ge Force RTX 4070 Ti Super 16Gb
Primary Hard Drive: 2Tb WD Blue SSD
Secondary Hard Drive: 2TB HDD
Power Supply: 850 Watts

Two weeks following the order the new PC arrived via land freight from California. Several Windows 11 updates later all looked great, but occasionally on bootups Windows failed. A few hours later following a Windows restore all is well. Now eagerly awaiting Nov 19 and reviewing Alpha videos.
