MSTS BN's river route

Ok, I've let all of yall NON-MSTS folks have the run of the mill here lately, that's about to change,LOL.

After a major melt down (mainly my fault ) I've lost most of my work on my route. So I've purty much started over, and here's part of what I've got so far.

At Memphis Tenn, the BN(SF), UP, and Interstate 55 all cross the Miss. river. These bridgges aren't 100% accurate, but they give the right "feel". Memphis is in the background...................or will be anyways,LOL

BN(SF)'s Tenn. yard. You can't get all of it in one screenshot. It's a big yard. Took me over a week to get all the tracks laid..............haven't started on the buildings yet.

If there's intrest, I'll try an keep the pics comin

Goodness man!!!!! You masochist! You must really love trains to go through that much work. I cant believe how complex that rail yard is, as well as those bridges.

Nice work. I can hardly wait to see it. Sorry about the melt down on software. Reminds me, I should back up some of mine again.

Thanks!! I've got to change the color of the I-55 bridge. It's more of a blue\silver color than a pink one.

I still have the old part of the route, but it wouldn't let me add anymore track to it( major mistake I made ) and I really wanted it to reach Memphis.

When I get this part done I'm gonna try an merge the 2 of them together. Not sure if it'll work tho. If not, then might try an make it a seperate route.

Nice job.

I have to ask though. Never having used MSTS, are the berms something that are adjustable in route creation? All your track seems to be elevated quite a bit.

In RW, I can lay track flat to the ground, I'm just curious.

Hey Snuff,

I can lay the track flat on the ground to. I was trying to make the yard as flat as I could, so some spots are elevated more than others. I'll come back later an "fill" the low spots between the track.

Out in the open I usually try to keep the track elevated 2 or 3 feet, and bring the gound up to it. I'm tryin to make it look like it has the road bed under it.

Around here, most all main line track is elevated like that, in low areas it's elevated alot more.

Gramps,

So do you go locate your GPS data and input it so that you get "real world" terraforming? Or are you just using a decal overlay that's flat and you'll come back and "jimmy" the terrain later?

Just curious.

I went and got all the Geo data first and then loaded "real world" info into my route before I started laying track.

I use DEM's to make the terrain, then come in with the track and either cut or raise it up to meet the track.

Somethin else I thought about, I use google earth alot to kinda see how the track lays on the land.
You can usually tell if it's on a berm or goin thru a cut if ya zoom in purty close.

As good as that is looking, I may just re-install MSTS to run that route !

Just curious, I am looking for a barge model to put at random places on the Mississippi River in FSX. Any chance the one you have would work in FSX ?

Please continue to update us regularly.

Gettin more done at Memphis

I couldn't really find any buildings like I needed, so ended up makin several. They're just low poly buildings, but look ok in game to me.
