Multiplayer issues

Tonight tried for the 1st time to hook up using BHaH. SittingDuck put up a game and I attempted to connect. It's obviously finding the game each time but it errors out with a plane mismatch, listing a bunch of Albatrosses (alb_d111_oaw_qc1, alb_d111_early_qc1, etc.). We tried being sure we picked the same mission (Host and Client) but it didn't help. A third flyer, Zommoz, hooked up to the game without an error but the second he connected SittingDuck's game ended.. They both run XP Pro, I'm running Vista 64. I wonder if there is a setting that didn't get changed to tell OFF that the plane files are under Program Files(x86).

Any ideas?

Yes I sure am! Do we all have to pick the same mission on the 1st screen in MP? We did anyway, didn't seem to help. I think, since I installed over the top of OFF 2 and the new install of OFF 3 both, in Vista 64, get loaded to Program Files (x86) that maybe that's the issue? I know in XP and Vista 32 the new game is installed in a new OBD Software folder.

On the other hand, the XP guys connected and joined but it blows out every time before they see each other.. They are still online trying (on Teamspeak at 217.155.102.217) ifyou want to talk to them.. I have to hit the rack... I'll reinstall clean tomorrow with no OFF 2 and go from there.

One thing we all had in common, the confusion on what to pick for missions and if it mattered if we all picked the same thing.

Re multiplay

Hi guy's

the host is the only player that needs the mission.
He selects the mission and you join his ip game and select a seat in his mission.
His computor then sends the information to your computor and this is where the lag factor comes into play.
This is why co-ops are better on line than dogfights as the host has a huge advantage over someone halfway round the world who is receiveing info from the host machine.
0nly the host needs the mission.
If you all have a virgin install there should be no plane mismatches.
Cfs-3 has a lot of issues with online mismatch and aircraft jumping around all over the sky.if this occurs turn your settings down as it may just be your computor set to high for the eye candy and it cant keep up.
A few trial and error joins should solve most problems.
I,ll sneak some phase 3 none modded missions up here for you in the very near future.

Hi,

The confusion gary is refering to is the first window that opens after you select the mulitplayer option from the off manager screen. In that window there is a drop down that gives you a slew of missions to select (at this time it may be prudent to thank the develpers for naming missions after me,,,,) And, you have to select one of those missions before you can go to the next window, which is the the screen where you have the 2 medals, one missions, one multiplayer, and normally from here you select the multiplayer medal, host game/join private game etc etc etc

It is not apparant to us yet exactly what the purpose of that first window is and if people who want to join a multiplayer game need to know what mission the host chose. Also, (and tried this with 2 different people hosting), for whatever reason, as soon as a game is up, and someone joins, it kills the hosts game.

Any input you can give is appreciated..

Hi there duck

Here is what has to happen

i assume you are the host so you and only you select the mission.
The others just select to join your game ip and then select the allied side and then choose a position.

I have a readme here in the form of a stickey that should get you sorted.

If not please let me know and ill try and be more specific.

Sorry, I know you are trying to help, but your statement is incorrect. Everyone is forced, as soon as you click Multiplayer on the Main Menu, to choose a mission before you go to the screen with the multiplayer button where you make host or join choices. I understand that the Host is in control of the mission, but even the client has to select a mission before you even get to the point of weather you want to host or join. Now that client's selection may not make any difference, but that is a step all flyers must make. As I stated, my mismatch problems are most likely because I installed over P2 and I will do a clean install to rectify that. The other guys got to choose planes, and were ready to fly but the hosts game would shut down as soon as a client hit "Fly".. me thinks something is amiss... If someone has sucess with P3 Multiplayer I would love to hear how!

As an aside, Duck has hosted and run P2 multi in the past without issues AFAIK, so this is a P3 thing...
:ernae:

It must be a P3 thing. I play on Sitting Duck's server often and I never have to pick the mission in the MP window.

I agree, something has changed in the transition from P2 to BHaH to mess up multiplayer. I'm sure the dev's will find it and fix it.

Very good Winder, in the meantime i'll stick to my Campaign and clearing the sky of those nasty axis planes...

Also - I wiped out all remnants of the P2 folders, registry entries, etc. and saved the CampaignData/Pilots folder. Installed BHaH clean (and this time it created the C:\OBDSoftware folder). I then removed the newly installed /Pilots folder (saved it to be safe) and pasted in my saved CampaignData/Pilots folder. All is well and I am right where I was... 12 Claims, 4 rejected (so far), and 7 outstanding..

does it have anything to do with the file that was shell.exe in P2 no longer being labelled as such?

A lot of people purchased this for multi play only.

Looking forward to ''the fix''

I doubt if its anything too serious as OBD can't mess with the executables themselves and one would assume that is where the multiplayer code is... of course I could be wrong!

GaryR & SittingDuck....had everyone made sure that they all had the same time frame override selected as well as the same mission?
Could this explain the mismatches of different planes from different phases of the war?

Gandi - I don't believe anyone changed anything from default. As we all have exactly the same install and all 1.1 installs have the same planes, missions, etc. there should be no conficts. The planes that were listed as "mismatched" were on my system when I checked, but it's possible that my installing over P2 is an issue (which I have since rectified). The 3 other guys had no mismatch issues and still could not fly together. All of us, even me, could join the IP and connect initially.. just couldn't fly.

I think you might have mis-understood (apologies if I'm wrong)
The override timeframe setting defaults to your current piots date, so if you all have different dates for your pilots then all these settings will be different for all players.....hence my comments about different planes from different eras of the war.

It's just worth a go setting this to be the same for everyone I'd say. I know it didn't make a difference with P2, but who knows?

Cheers
