Multiplayer question

Hi again.

If I want fly with somebody in multiplayer and I don't have same aircraft in my "garage" what he have but then he's aircraft show some random aircraft on my garage, right?

Example:

I fly default Goose and he fly RealAir Spitfire. I don't have money to buy Spitfire, so I download some freeware Spit. What I have to so then that my friends aircraft look that free Spit for me (not any random ) ? Is it even possible.

I do not think this is possible. Gamespy can be very tempermental to the point where a A2A Mustang may show up as a 747 if you dont have the mustang. I may be wrong but I think what you are asking is impossible.

I don't think it's possible via Gamespy MP but if you connect via FSHost you can pick any aircraft in your hangar to use as the 'displayed aircraft' for other MP pilots.

The downside is there is a bad 'lag' when using FSHost in FSX which is particularly noticeable if you are trying to fly in close formation. Once the other player gets to within about 250ft of your aircraft it starts hopping all over the sky.

Larry, has anyone tried IP to IP, or is possible with FSX? That's was the best way to connect back when I was flying IL2 missions with a group. One person is the server and the rest connect to his IP.

Hi Gary. Yes direct ip is totally doable in FSX and lovely since it bypasses all of the finicky gamespy connection stuff. It's the only way I fly with my friends. It's counterintuitive at first but to host a direct connect setup you actually host a LAN session. To connect to one, you join through LAN mode and then hit "connect directly" and enter the host's ip. Done, and super easy, plus you still have shared cockpit functionality and voice comms and all that. Formation is completely fluid with it.

It's basically all the good stuff about gamespy flight without all the stupid parts. :)

LOL.... I agree on not connecting with all the stupid parts. I'll have to give it a try soon with FSX. Thanks Mike.

I agree 100% with Lotus, 99% of my MP flying is done with a direct connection and it's not just a two player thing either.....we have had as many as 12 in a MP session all connecting to one guy acting as host as he had the fastest internet connection speed and thus could handle the bandwidth/traffic.
