I always assumed that the waters of the Sibuyan Sea were shallow, being close to so many islands of the Philippines, etc., and for that reason wondered why the wreck of Musashi was never located. Turns out the ship is under about a mile of water.
O.T. - In April 1983 we (USS Enterprise and Midway battle groups) left Subic Bay and crossed through the Islands of the Philippines by way of the Sibuyan Sea and San Bernadino Straight, the same path as the Japanese fleet during the battle that saw the sinking of Musashi. Always thought that was pretty cool.
This book was written by Gregory Fletcher, a TBM pilot with VT-18, who flew in that battle and was shot down while making a torpedo run on Musashi herself. I spoke to him about his book briefly after reading it, and even made a paint of his plane for the Vertigo Studios TBM. I posted a link to the story of finding Musashi on his Face Book, as this might interest him...
