MV DHC-2 Update AND Expansion Pack RELEASED

Cant wait :) btw. check the alpha channels, maybe in this angle but no any shiny :>.

There is a lot of shine on these models (I adjusted the alphas early in the development processes). However for some reasons, the screenshots does not show so much shine. :adoration:

She looks great!

Btw. I hope than Your thoughts about FM in DHC are finished and now is ok. Trust me, the An-2 (which I drove myself in real life near 1 hour in the air) has really special FM (and its a really light plane for his engine). Here it was interesting my old test (from March this year) for beta (in the final version this was fixed also but in this time was near ok in the simulator, standad version of DHC-2).

Situation: 6kts front wind, 40% of fuel, pilot only, take off flaps, trim default. The airstrip has 3900 ft.
Model of DHC-2 starts to climb near 1100 ft (in RL at 1000 must be at 50 feets).

Something like 1300 ft.

Those pictures shows the take off way w
hich answered the result of near the real plane (and as I wrote in the final version it was a little tuned up), so do not worry about that ; ). Regards.

One of the things I am anxious about when aircraft like this are released is that folks see videos, hear tales of performance but do not want to put time in the aircraft to become proficient, they want the Bob Hoover routine without the experience and practice so to speak. When ever you talk bush planes, many want Super Cub performance no matter the aircraft size and role the aircraft actually performs. To be honest I was apprehensive that MV would bow to pressure from the casual instant experts and dumb down the flight model. The Iris C-27J Spartan comes to mind where many if not most wanted to be doing the Paris Airshow routine after 30 minutes no matter what the weight of the aircraft was and were more than willing to sacrifice realism in areas where the military aircraft would be used every day in an operational squadron. I think that made getting it sorted a much more drawn out process.
I am not referring to any one here but just in general. I am most impressed with the attention and experience involved in this project.

Over the Tongass Fjords again.

STOL, ski, cargo.

Nice shots!

Hey, does the ski version work properly now? I loaded it and tested ski retraction / extension briefly and couldn't note any position change of the skis, and taxiing on dirt felt no different with skis selected up or down. The contact points appeared to have been fixed though.

@Dimus- Absolutely agree!

I am NOT looking for similar flight characteristics. I AM LOOKING for the transmittal of the feel of flight and similar SATISFACTION after spending a couple of hours in the VC. Like you, I have never flown the Beaver, but I have flown (and owned) many different aircraft (mostly tail-draggers) and know what I am looking for.... I am hoping to experience the sensation of flight once more, albeit from a desk. I did not comment further on the FDE, as I fully appreciate all the work that goes on behind an upgrade, on what is a beautiful aircraft indeed. What I want is very personal, and since leaving v3 and the Annuschka behind.... I continue my search. BTW- your Locher work looks superb!

@ALL-
If the FR Super Cub works in Prepar3d v4 please do let me know asap, I so miss my low and slow flightings. Bernt's FDEs are amongst the very best, and I would love something that he worked on.....

Now- Back to the thread... the Beaver update...

Best- Carl

F R Super Cub works 100% in P3DV4 no problems whatsoever

It works (You must be on the ground). One click (or mouse wheel) each right lever in the middle positions between pilot and passenger seat.
BUT it looks a little strange for me (an angle, if You do it manually) so I use it automatically as it was done in the model.

Despite this update, I'm still reluctant to buy this aircraft.
The 3D model is top notch, the virtual cockpit is really cool and I'm sure the flight model and various features are very good as well.
But since release 1, I really can't stand the textures of this aircraft. For some reason, the textures do not produce a realistic material effect. In some screenshot, sometimes I even get the impression I'm looking at an old FS9 model :/ (sorry, this sounds more harsh than I really meant).

Don't get me wrong, MilViz has done some excellent work on that plane for sure. But to me, there is definitely something wrong with the textures or the materials.

Comparing it to an FS9 model is indeed a bit harsh, given all the alphas, specs, bump maps and dynamic reflections. I reckon videos may do it more justice than screenshots. Also, I have no doubt repainters will surpass the default MV textures by making full use of all the aforementioned alphas, specs etc. Repainting has been stunted so far, due to the awareness that the update with different UVW mapping was on its way... but now it has arrived I believe repaint releases will pick up...

Gunnar, Yo-Yo, Jankees, Ron e.g. all-

Is the paint kit now in "final form" where repaints once updated are good to go? There's a particular one I'm waiting for, and hopeful that future updates won't break...

Ta- Carl

Is the paint kit that is available on the Milviz site the updated kit? If it is I am a little disappointed that I am unable to find the wireframe guide.

Yup, has been up and ready for a few days. It doesn't contain the mesh UVW as a layer, but there are several of the default paints included, which I find make for good references.

Fill yer boots!

Since folks are sharing screenshots here, I guess I'll throw out a link to a video series I made a little while back, playing a fictional bush pilot hopping through the Misty Fjords area for a day.

https://youtu.be/xIYrBZAfETM

I post it not to show off my videography skills, which are, admittedly, poor... but because a few people have chimed in about being on the fence about this plane. I thought maybe some (probably way too much lol) operational footage might help. Plus I just had fun making it and talking about one of my favorite areas ;-).

It unfortunately features the base amphib from before the update since I made it a while ago, but is maybe still of some value.

No mesh UVW loses me then. My almost 71 year old diabetes affected eyes find it hard finding the outline of various parts. The mesh provided a great guide for me.

does this aircraft have cowl flaps? i cant get them to work,at least visibly using either my saitek panel or in the sim using the saitek quadrant
