My Little $410.00 Computer

Well so far with FSX and just SP1 loaded..Settings med high...Nothing done in my graphics card settings or FSX config ,its holding 35 frames and looks good..Steady..

I just configured one for about 450 bucks with a 3870 graphics card and power supply.

This would be a fun little project to do if I ever get a spare 500 dollars :mixedsmi:

Though I think a digital camera is higher up on the list. After the A2A cub, P-51, and F-4, naturally. :icon_lol:

So many wants..so little funds...LOL :isadizzy:

I lied..FSX settings for scenery are med....

$450 bucks is the right price for a computer. Spend any more than that, is a sheer waste of good money.
You failed to state what you used for a Power Supply. The best rig there is can be brought to it's knees with a insufficient power supply.
I would also spent a couple of bucks for a better cooling for the CPU.
I also would rather use Windows XP than all the bloatware of Windows Vista. It will eventually drive you right up the wall.
I got rid of it last winter. - My hands are still trembling.

HD...I used a Thermaltake 850W that I had here already..The rig as configured will rune all day on a 500W though...

I'm OCed now from 2.5 to 3.2 on stock cooling and my temps in bios are 28-30... Fine with me right there...

Vista is OK...I ran FSX on it before and had no problems other than the vista lag that drove me nuts.......I went with Vista as its a display puter in my shop, and want folks to use it and perhaps like it????? Their choice..

I do have Win 7 32 and 64 bit and may partition my HDD and dual boot both.....

HM, you are amazing...!

You came into this forum wanting to fly and you ended up getting a computer made for FSX. You have had so many problems with computers. now look at you! The Obstacles made you their worst enemy! You have conquered them all and you have even started a computer business.... All from the yearning to fly virtually, lol..

Amazing..

We as virtual pilots, trying to get our computers to run FS faster, have been turned into computer geeks! (Well, geeks isnt the best term. Computer savy, computer experts, wise to how all these things run... Maybe that sounds a bit better).

:applause: :guinness: :applause:

Not really amazing Bill....Just done out of desire...LOL

I did just discover one thing...

FSX does not need a 2 thousand dollar home built computer at all..

FSX is running fine on this puppy...

I will push it more later today after.........

Seeing the new StarTrek Movie...YEA :ernae:

Hmmm.. Well I have loaded GEX and UTX...

With sliders at med and above with no config tweaks its holding 32-35 frames over KLAX....

Thats with traffic at 20%... Smooth as silk too..I am really starting to like this rig more and more...

So true.... It was here, new, and avaible....So in it went...LOL

I am running a Vision Tech 3850 and it requires a 500 watter I believe..Might get by with a 450 as I only have a DVD drive and 1 HDD in this little beast... And two fans..Well three counting CPU heatsink...:bump:

Now you just gotta see this to believe it.....

Just loaded FEX ..So now its FEX..UTX..GEX..Traffic at 25% now too...

Its smokin FEX too.... I am loving this .... Frames holding steady at 35...

Oh, sure, now you tell me! :isadizzy:

Just kidding, my rig is being built to hopefully handle SoW:BoB when it's released as well as FSX with everything maxed. Plus, my PC's generally have to last me a minimum of five years, before I consider getting another.

But this is a great thread, because my IT guy has been looking to build a low cost FSX box. I'm definitely going to send him to this thread.

I do like the look of that case as well. Although, it looks kind of small. ;)

Sundog.....Its a mid ATX sized case with a micro ATX mobo in it. Its the size of a off the shelf HP or something like that.Believe it or not it has good cooling too.

It started off to be just a shop build , the plan being to see how cheap I could build one, and with an inexpensive upgrade of the CPU and Vid card I ended up with this set up.

I honestly believe it will out perform my big rig that costs over 2 grand for me to build.( mostly because that rig has a 4870X2 vid card that FSX hates)

Way to go,Harley.....now eek out some more gigahertz outta that chip :monkies::icon_lol::ernae:

10 - 4 on that.... I am loving this...

As a matter of fact.. I took my big rig out to the shop and brought the little on into my house so I could sit and actually fly FSX now....LOL

The vid card holds up my big rig as its got a 4870X2 and FSX hates it ....

FSX hates my 790i mobo too. It has a habit of freezing for no reason. I've decided enough is enough and I'm gonna throw in a spare Asus P5E3 mobo and do a (well overdue) reinstall.
