My motherboard died

About 3 weeks ago my motherboard died and I gave my computer to a local business to do the repair. I told him that I needed a board capable of being able to run a flight simulator. He charged $A355 for the new MB and a clean out.

However when I got it home and plugged in everything worked fine until I tried to run either P3D V4.5 or X-Plane 11.34 each time they CTD. I asked him about it but he claims it was a gaming board and should work fine. He now wants to charge me $A400 for the board I need. I can get it online for less than $A200.
So unfortunately I am out of flight simming until about mid July when I will have finances available to get another board. Lesson learned and next time it will be DIY.

If he changed the motherboard, then you probably have quite a few drivers to update for your Windows, including chipset drivers, and also other drivers to reinstall like the video drivers etc...
After this, you might have to delete the shaders in P3D and the Prepar3D.cfg as well, and check again if it starts.

This is by no means an attack upon you but why do people not just build their own. PC's are easy to build and I mean REALLY Really easy. There are umpteen You Tube videos to refer to to assist in the selection of parts and the actual build in simple easy to follow steps. Plus it is cheaper and very very satisfying and you can get the parts that really do complement each other instead of generic off the shelf selections which are a one size fits all solution.

PC Part Picker is a great resource. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/ (that is the Oz one) or https://pcpartpicker.com/ elsewhere.

Builders? I like these selections

Give it a go.

Normally I do build my own but this time I was stuck for time. I was involved as a volunteer for a major party in our Federal election which was decided on the weekend. I am waiting until mid July when I will have saved the necessary funds to get a new MB and upgrade the CPU.

You have my sympathies Pat.
I did my bit for our local Independant and failed, not pleased at all.
Change is not coming due to the 'Hip Pocket Nerve' campaign and the general gutless outlook of voters who are only interested in their own little patch of the burbs.
