Nearly complete.... She's a tough bird to ride though.... Will have to make some changes here & there.... and a few touch ups in paint... It is just primer, I will probably leave it like that... touch ups are easier that way when it gets dinged up...
 
I bought it awhile ago... Saw it for sale on Craigslist in an antique shop in Lancaster OH... Drove 2 hours after work on a Sat. to get her... then it was interesting fitting her in the car... Even though I brought a tool kit, she was pretty rust to get apart....
 
She looks much better in the OD primer than she did that that day-glo blue and white.

Why y'all referring to that bicycle as a "She"? If'n your wives were talking, would they be calling it "Him" or "He"?

Must be the cultural gap found along the Continental Divide. Out here in La-La land we'd prefer to use the non-gender specific "It"! :mixedsmi:
 
I think almoste everyone I know refers to their car, bike, airplane, or anything else that they hold dear as "she"..... Rarely will you hear somebody call an airplane an "it".
 
Those pronouns (he, it and she) are about the last vestages of our use of a gramatical gender in English. Most Europeans will tell you that the proper use of gender with a pronoun is most important as they still use two or three genders in their languages. Direct and indirect articles as well as pronouns must reflect the proper gender of the object. Often there is no ryme or reason to an objects gender.

Believe it or not, a bicycle in German is an "it" and in Spanish or French it is a "she."

Either way, she's a beaut, eh?
 
Language anomolies

"He" definately reminds me of all the bicycles scattered about the USAAF 8th AF bases in England during WWII. Reportedly, each base had hundreds of bikes and they were often the primary mode of transportation for the ground crews and admin staffs.

That being the case, "he" looks just great at "his" current airfield!
 
I think that might be the only "warbird" type I could afford!
Love it. After all, the cruiser style is coming back strong. :icon_lol:
 
Will have to put some miles on HER:jump: tomorrow since we have fireworks at the airport on the 4th every year.
 
My bike is definitely a she, I couldn't be comfortable riding around on a "He". Nice find on the bike there, Witt.

Neat cruiser! At least you ditched the hippie-handles (AKA granny-bars) for a nice set of wide cruiser handlebars.

Is it a Columbia or ??? Kinda looks like an old Columbia frame I beat up on when I was a kid.
I can't see if there's still a badge on the frame or not.

Yeah, I ditched the handlebars it came with just because they were very narrow, and I just didn't feel comfortable at the time riding with them... I sitll have them if I ever wish to switch back. Good eye on the bike. The originals were usually the Columbia type, this however was actually made by BF Goodrich. It did have a badge, which I still have, but didn't put it back on the bike... Haven't decided whether I am going to put it back on... It needs the primer paint job touched up, but thats kind of why I left it just primer, so when it gets scuffed, I just grab a can, shake, spray, & repeat....

It got a lot of attention between me, my brother, & my old man on the 4th of July.
 
OOOOOOH....vintage JATO package! Nice find on that one. I've heard that very few WW2 bicycles were equipped with JATO packages. I bet the museum is glad to have one of these rarities on site from time to time.
