My Sim Objects/Airplane hangar is too full.

lol, yea that's why I posted that link, lol. . .it takes you right to the page that says "Addit Pro for Flight Simulator X".

i was tryin' to figure out what you were saying when you posted the FSX link!!

Here is the issue though. Addit Pro does NOT seem to be able to accomplish the simple task of disabling an aircraft in FSX, easily!! (You would think that would be kinda simple, huh?) It is amazing that there is not a utility (at least that I've found) that does that.

I just simply move aircraft to an "Aircraft Holding", & "Rotorcraft Holding" folder, If I'm not going to fly them. That way I can switch between "era's" (modern, 1960's/1970's, WWII, etc.) fairly quickly, AND try to speed up FSX load time.

I have found that FSX does load quicker, with fewer aircraft, but really not that much, due to all the scenery (Addit CAN manage that), and AI I have.

Yea, I don't use it either. I did a long time ago, prior to FSX and just found it more cumbersome than I felt was necessary. Keeping excess aircraft in a holding folder, like several of us apparently do just seems the easiest. If you want to fly one of them move it to the airplanes folder and go fly. . .seems very simple to me. No renaming, amending cfg files or any of that.

Can you set the sim objects path to retrieve the hangar from another hard drive, if I wanted to keep the new hangar outside of the FSX folder?

Of course you can, these are my entries:

SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=J:\!FSXAircraft
SimObjectPaths.7=J:\!AIAircraft
SimObjectPaths.8=J:\!WOAI_Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.9=J:\!FTXAI_AIRCRAFT
SimObjectPaths.10=j:\!MAIW_Aircraft

Numbers 6 to 10 are on a separate drive.

My approach to managing various configurations is to create copies of the fsx.exe file and
rename them to indicate their use.

A renamed fsx.exe will create a new cfg file with the same name. Or, as I do, copy and rename the
cfg file and edit it accordingly.

Here are several examples of the MAIN sections of a few of my configurations:

Code:
fsx_test.exe --> fsx_test.cfg

[Main]
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles

//SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Misc
//SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Aircraft
//SimObjectPaths.6=M:\FSX AI Aircraft
//SimObjectPaths.7=M:\FSX Military AI
//SimObjectPaths.5=I:\FSX Military Aircraft
//SimobjectPaths.9=I:\FSX A6 Aircraft
//SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\Propliner Aircraft
//SimObjectPaths.10=ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAI_AIRCRAFT

Ananda: Thanks for showing me how to set up for a hangar on a separate drive.

Gypsy Baron: Now, that is too cool. I've wondered how to set it up for different scenarios, thanks.

Hi,

I seldom, if ever, fly the aircraft that came with FSX. If I place a "Hanger" folder in my SimObjects folder and then place the original FSX planes in it, will my addon planes that use GPS's, gauges, etc. from the original aircraft still work?

Thanks,

Joe

They will if those are in your "Gauges" folder. If they are in the panel folders, they won't.

Any addon aircraft that alias sounds to those aircraft will become "silent".

One needs to use caution when removing or moving default aircraft for those reasons.

I'd strongly caution against doing anything that might render the default aircraft invisible to the sim. Remember, they're used for AI traffic as well, and disabling them might just render your skies barren if you're using an AI package (or default) that relies on the stock traffic.

If I remember correctly, some of the addon planes I've got strongly suggest starting a flight with a default plane and then switching to the addon before flying it, especially those with more complex systems modeling. I suspect these may be addon planes released in the early years of FSX's availability. My planes of choice for me now don't require this.
