My video card is dying

I've been running a 256K GeForce 6200 AGP card for the last two years and I've suspected for weeks it's been giving up the ghost. I can barely run video applications and animations on some of the newer sites without it looking like a slideshow. I think the family will treat me to a new video card this week, and this being the BEST place to ask this kind of advice: Any recommendations?

512K GeForce 7200GS AGP card if you can find one. I had a similar problem to the one you are experiencing and asked for recommendations. I could only find a 256kb 7200GS card, but even that was much better than my old card before it went belly up.

Good AGP are getting hard to find (in the UK anyway)

I have to agree with the recommendation on the 512K GeForce 7200GS AGP. That is what I am running in my system...and it handles everything CFS2 can throw at it and 95% of what FS2004 can throw at it. My system is a P4 3.0 Gig, 2 Gig Ram (PC3200) based system and I love it.

The second number in the nVidia card name is the key. In essence, a GT6800 is better than an GTX8600.

I replaced my 7200 512 with a GT6800 1Gig.

WOW!

On ATIs, I am not sure what is better.

My card was right at $100 from a computer store here in town.

When I am NOT in a hurry, I always order from NewEgg online.

Oops, I made a mistake...I have the 7600 GS, not the 7200 GS. Can't say a bad thing about the card, especially now that I updated the drivers to the latest ones for it...made a huge difference in color density, color accuracy, image sharpness. Didn't notice any real impact on frame rates...but the look of CFS2 and FS2004 went up a number of notches.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my thread. I am now back up and running, and able to play CFS2 properly for the first time in months. I ended up getting another GeForce AGP, but rated at 512K. AGP cards are definitely being phased out in favor of PCI express cards, but I'd have had to get a new motherboard for one of those, and I'm hoping my current board will last me another year. I had orignally gotten (as a birthday present) and ATI/Raedon graphics card, but that turned out to be defective while new in the box, which surprised me, because I've used them in the past and never had any problems with them. Fortunately, I was able to get my refund without any trouble.

Thanks again to everyone,

JAMES
