N3306TX's Wild West Excursion

Back on track again (hopefully). Need to get to Bozeman as a high wind warning is predicted for tomorrow. Departing S27 to KBZN.

EDIT: NOT back on track. I think me and my computer have had it for the day. About 1/2 way through the flight I hit some key combination and FSX "disappeared". Gone and nowhere to be found. Not in the task list, but in the process list. But, I think it was still flying as duenna seemed to be tracking. After 10-15 minutes of trying to figure out what the "h" went wrong, I finally gave up and rebooted the pc since I definitely had no control (or patience) left.

I think Ms. Murphy Monroe is getting me back. Murphy is definitely playing havoc with my computer and has been for a while now. I swear my next pc will probably be a MAC as I'm fed up with Windows and all its quirks, security issues, lockups, crashes and constant updates that continually degrade performance over time.

I'll be re-starting from S27 whenever I can get back around to flying.

Departing S27 for KBZN.

After some problems a day or so ago, I thought it best to have the local FBO Red Eagle Aviation take a look at the plane. Late yesterday, the mechanic called and said he couldn't find anything wrong, but dumped the fuel and put in a fresh load. Since KBZN was under high wind warnings it was best that my passenger and I stay at the Aero Inn for the night and plan a sunrise departure the next day if weather permitted. A check of the weather shows winds calm at KBZN, but here it's hazy with a breeze out of the northwest. That shouldn't delay our departure.

Ready to roll toward KBZN at S27.

A little hazy on take-off out of S27 but once above the haze, it was a beautiful morning for flying. No advantage from the winds however, as most of the trip had wind right on the nose. This banker I have as a passenger is a strange dude. He's been fairly quiet for most of the trip until about halfway, I hear him open his briefcase and then this insane laughing coming from the back of the plane. You wouldn't believe what he was doing!

After the weird experience with the banker on board from S27 to KBZN, he apologized for his unusual behavior once we landed at Bozeman and asked if we could get a prescription refilled while he was doing his business in Bozeman. No problem!, I replied. He called it in and while he went and visited his client, I walked over and picked it up at the Bungalow Drug, Inc. on N. Weaver Street, which was less than 1.5 miles away from the airport. I certainly needed that walk! I wasn't able to see what the prescription was as the bag was stapled shut. Not sure I really wanted to know what was in that sack, but I better keep a close eye on this guy. Do they make rear-view mirrors for planes?

We departed runway 12 at KBZN and turned south to intersect US 191 and the Gallatin River to follow them through the mountains in the Gallatin National Forest and avoided exceeding the "soft" ceiling of 10,000 ft. At the Montana/Wyoming state line, I resumed direct navigation to KJAC crossing the western edge of Yellowstone National Park, just as Old Faithful was making her hourly presence. After a photo-op passing Yellowstone, we turned to a heading direct to the north end of Jackson Lake for a bumpy and gusty approach into runway 19 at KJAC.

Man you got me...

I was looking at the standings an saw you had "completed" 17 legs... was like :icon_eek:.

Then after looking at your posts I realized you had just filled in the legs part... lol.

Happy trails regards,

H'mmm it looks like one of my posts didn't make it or I did something wrong because the KJAC-36U data is missing that I posted right after the flight yesterday. Here it is again.

Down safe at 36U.

It was a little choppy departing runway 19 out of KJAC. Non-eventful trip although noticed the ground getting closer in spots and considered an altitude change but I was already near the ceiling restriction. My passenger got quiet about 15 minutes after takeoff once we got out of the chop. I'm not sure what those pills were that he took, but it must have worked. In fact, when we arrived in Heber City, it took both me and his awaiting limo driver to get him out of the plane. Oh, and watch the trees on approach!

A mostly uneventful morning flight from Heber City, UT to Moab, UT although there were a few times I had to make course corrections to avoid terrain and stay under the ceiling. Ran into a shower along the way, but didn't last long. Easy right-base approach into runway 21 with a 6kt crosswind at KCNY.

Another uneventful leg. Some unique scenery but sorta "blah" in FSX. Departed straight out of KCNY and arrived straight in to runway 15 at Page. The next leg over the Grand Canyon hopefully will make up for the scenery on this leg.

That's such a great scenic flight between Page and Grand Canyon. I told the banker as we left Page to have his camera ready. He must have taken over 100 pictures. Flew most of the flight low over the mesa then climbed to 9500 ft to clear the north rim of the canyon. It was a nice day for flying. Made a straight-in approach to KGCN and landed runway 21.

Well, the banker has thoroughly enjoyed the last two legs over the Grand Canyon National Park. And his bonus was catching a glimpse of Hoover Dam on the approach to KLAS. He must be feeling lucky too, as he requested we stop here for the night. He mentioned that his client was meeting him at Wynn's resort and that was where we would be staying for the night. He tossed me a key and said "Here's the key to your penthouse." Penthouse?

While I was securing the plane, he was messing around in his briefcase and I noticed he was stuffing his pockets with money. Surely not, I thought. He's not going to gamble that money is he? After stuffing his pockets, he locked the briefcase and then handcuffed it to his arm and said "Ok, let's go." We climbed into the limo and off we headed toward the Vegas Strip.

The banker decided for us to stay the weekend in Vegas. I didn't mind as I was having a great time and the banker was too. But you know what they say...what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

Uneventful early morning flight west out of Las Vegas. Flew over the south end of the strip near the Luxor and headed toward the Spring Mountains and Mt. Charleston. Over the mountains across the town of Pahrump, NV, then headed toward Death Valley Junction airport and followed highway 190 as the approach into Furnace Creek. A crosswind on arrival nicely set down on runway 33. The banker appreciated that since it appears he is still recovering from our Vegas weekend.
