John Stinstrom's NAS Cecil Field, FL scenery for FS9 was, in my opinion, a work of art. When he was working on it, I had provided him with a great deal of photographs, which he used to recreate a lot of the buildings in the scenery, i.e. barracks, base terminal, etc..... Years ago, I tried to use the scenery in FSX, but experienced the usual texture problems, which required the use of "exclusions" (something I have never understood how to do).

Has anyone ever modified this great scenery for FSX for themselves? If so, could you share it? I miss flying over that base, looking down at familiar sights!

Ditto, and also my attempt to try it in FSX didn't come close to what it should be. Really like that base John did and you could set up all kinds of AI that could fly out to the Big E nearby etc. You just had the Florida hot sun on the ramp atmosphere. Hope someone gives it a go.
 
I agree.

There are a few of John's airports that would be wonderful to have in FSX. Among them for me: NAS Whidbey Is., and Cecil Field. He also redid the first airport I ever put out: NAS Lemoore. His was much better...but I still have mine on my computer...:icon_lol:

I used to stay in regular contact with him. I need to email John, and see how he's doing. He also did a great job on Wake Island, I thought. I spent 8 glorious days on Wake in the Fall of 1996, courtesy of a USMC squadron, which flew me there to replace the LOX cart on the flight line. The C-130 crew "left" me there for just over a week, as they flew to other locations. I have never been to a more beautiful place than Wake Island. It is a place that most people will never see. So much happened there in WW2. The battles fought between the US Marines and the civilians against the Japanese - were intense. There was so much gunfire, that you can literally walk the beaches on Wake, and find .30 cal shell casings everywhere.

I would be interested in this as well myself. I use Cecil Field as my home base for flying out of. I went to the airshow there earlier on this year. At least it will be getting business with Boeing moving that depot rework facility out there. I wonder how hard it is to build scenery from scratch? NS Mayport has been sorely missing from the scene. In FSX there isn't even a ship basin. Just a little pond. Guess time will tell.
 
I can't get over it. Cecil Field was an auxilary field for NAS Jacksonville in 1945 -1947. It had one lonely strip and guys were sent there instead of getting mess cooking. It truly was out in the boonies. Nothing but snakes, 'gaters and feral cows. Nothing around except jungle.
Now you say the have buildings, people and everything. This I got to see.

Helldiver, during the 70s, Cecil was really hopping. The base really got built up. I believe one of the runways was long enough that it was designated as a alternative NASA Shuttle landing site. I first reported there in 1981. NAS Cecil Field was the East Coast A-7 Corsair II base. S-3 Vikings were based there too. It was a very busy base.

The A-7 Corsair II that used to be the "gate guard" was the very first A-7 to catapult and trap on any carrier. That particular aircraft is now in front of Don Garlits Racing Museum. The strange coincidence about that A-7 also for me personally, was that when I was at Patuxent River in the early 70s for my first enlistment, I used to work on that aircraft when she was still flying. It was, at that time, assigned to the North Site Maintenance Division at Pax.

I love the GSE you put on the Line. Way cool! But then, I have a soft spot for the Line Division. I ran one for two squadrons.
