Well, it finally happened, the Nationwide series had a larger crowd in Kansas yesterday than the Cup series in Michigan today.

Michigan has always been a great Indy car track, but as a NASCAR track, it is a yawner. Fuel once again wins, good for Mark martin anyhow. As I say Ed, the 'right" Hendrick driver won. I know the neighborhood heard me clapping and yelping when Jimmie ran out of gas. :icon_lol:

But the crowd on a good day was a no show, compared with a packed house at Kansas last night. Wanna bet Bruton doesn't get a Cup event at Kansas next year.

good for the old fox:applause:

i actually like watching the Nationwide series better than sprint now...but if they change to the stoopid car in Nationwide that'll kill it for me.

ever wonder why so many sprint cars blow the right front tire and hit the wall? because farcecar in their infinite wisdom spent vast amounts of money to design a 'safer' less aerodynamic car............however the car is wider and heavier, thus putting more stress on the TIRES:pop4:....and they are the same size tires as the older lighter 'less safe' cars....what a bunch of maroons......

whew...i been wanting to get that off my chest for awhile now.

Interesting.....:monkies:

As far as the Cup race today, I was glad to see Martin win but dissappointed that Biffle didn't win it either :frown:

And then I was happy to see another top 10 finish by Montoya :mixedsmi:

I thought Dale Jr. would've run better though....:kilroy:

Hey All,

Smoores I was wondering about that too!

I'm seriously bummed about Jimmie and Chad and fuel. They've won races on fuel before and now two weeks in a row they've lost races on the last lap by running out of gas. This week I think they used too much in Jimmie bein sideways chasing down martin and whoever was leading (my mind just went blank). Well better now than during the chase! We won't talk about Martin.

wait, the nationwide series was at Kentucky saturday?

Somebody ain't reading my posts all the way through:

'Bout time for Lady luck to play a reverse hand on JJ. Sorry Ed.

i think we are reading 'Kansas' when it should be 'Kentucky'.

I was somewhat bemused to find one of the 'gaps' in the LM coverage filled with some variation on NASCAR which had at one stage a row of cars angle parked on one of 'straights' while some track cleaning was going on .......:isadizzy:
Couldn't bother watching it after a couple of minutes ......... no sign of Marcus Ambrose!!
Wandered back later to see the highly touted Kyle Busch (Formula 1? No way!!!!:mixedsmi:) get well beaten by some young bloke with great style.
:applause::applause::applause:

Joey Logano...he's about 18 i think....

Marcus Ambrose ain't doin to bad in sprint...i bet he improves his position in the standings when the road races come along.

Oops, right, started with a 'K' anyhow! :isadizzy:

Two big differences, Kentucky has trees, if you see a tree in Kansas, it's a National Forest! :icon_lol:

But it's true, there was a packed speedway for the nationwide race in Kentucky, seats were empty everywhere at Michigan.

The problem is not the economy, it is the COT. If NASCAR does not revert back to having the real bodies of the supposedly stock cars, they are in deep do-do! People come to see a race, not a noisy parade!

Caz

Hmmm.....I actually like the COT....:mixedsmi:

(But if I had a choice, I'd like NASCAR to return to the early 80s and prior where they actually used real bodies instead of templates)

I have nothing against the safety features of the COT, but the generic look of all cars and the fact that you simply cannot race them is what buggers me. It's more like slot car racing that real track racing these days.

Double-file restarts should be interesting at Laguna Seca this weekend, but please NASCAR, do away with the COT.

BTW Panther, talk is floating around that other foreign manufacturers are being courted by NASCAR with the demise of the American auto industry.

This doesn't surprise me at all....next question is, will any of the other Japanese manufacturers come in to challenga Toyota :ques:

Honda most surely will if offered. Mazda and Nissan are prime candidates too. I'd like to see VW, AUDI, BMW, and other European makes too. Let's face it, the American auto industry is a dinosaur.

Some Cup teams driving Dodges and Chevys are going to lose their backing. We make a big to do about this, but the entire decade of the 1970s NASCAR operated without any factory backing whatsoever. But still some team will have no option but seek out Ford or Toyota or some new make allowed into NASCAR. It's a changing world.

Caz

Hey All,

Wouldn't mind a bit to see some other manufacturers (note manufacturers not constructors) in NASCAR be good in fact. I like Nissan.

Quiz question for the day - why does NASCAR use templates? What brought it on? (One of my favorite stories!)

Smokey Yunick and the 7/8th Chevelle ...... :applause:
Re the COT, it at least looks like a racing car, the only way I could pick the cars pre-dating it was by the 'manufacturer's' name on the nose.
To me, the past 5 years of NASCAR body shells looked like they belonged on a drag strip in the 'Funny Car' category.
